A better OS than Windows

    If you are sick of Windows maintenance (SCANDISK

    DEFRAG ETC...) try BeOS - never has to be defragged,

    ultra stable, connects to internet, fair amount of

    software available. It also runs REAL fast even on

    slower computers

    I agree, I've used it in the past and it's much more powerful and extremely stable.

    I would suggest "Suse" for the beginner though. Easier installation and much more manageable for those with limited linux experience.

    If anyone has thought about changing, I would say the biggest advantage lies in security. Much more robust if you know how to configure properly. The disadvantage is finding suitable programs and compatibility with Windows. You'll see much change in that department in the upcoming years though.
