On September 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked two planes and crashed them into the Twin Towers, a national monument. The colosal explosion spread dust and debris throughout the atmosphere, choking whoever was within a few miles of the catastrophe. People inside the building were set aflame, survaliance cameras catching every minute of their agony. This was an act of war.
Eight years later, we have a gaping whole in the earth, never having built anything atop of it. Instead, we are constructing not the Freedom Tower, but the One World Trade Center elsewhere, a monument to worldliness who's constsruction will be overseen by communist China, who resented the original name. While Americans pledged allegiance to the flag, declaring us one nation under God, the United Nations in New York city has a statue of Zeus in its lobby.
It took us 5 years to build the Hoover Dam, and it took the Empire State Building 1 year 45 days to build, but after 8 years, we only have a hole in the ground where the World Trade Center once stood. Are we not Americans anymore? Will our monument to American freedom of trade be replaced with a tower that has scrapped the name "Freedom?" We might as well put a statue of Zeus in the new lobby, because we have forgotten who we are.

According to the FBI's testimont before the 09/11 Commission they were not terrorists, they were avengers:
