According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) 32,885 people died in traffic crashes in 2010 in the United States (latest figures available),
including an estimated 10,228 people who died in drunk driving crashes, accounting for 31% of all traffic deaths last year.

Since NHTSA began recording alcohol-related statistics in 1982, drunk driving fatalities have decreased 52% from 21,113 in 1982.
Since the inception of The Century Council and our national efforts to fight drunk driving, drunk driving fatalities have declined 35% from 15,827 in 1991. (Source: NHTSA/FARS, 2011)

Sixteen US Mass Shootings Happened in 2012, Leaving at Least 88 Dead | The Nation

A drunk driver in 2010 killed 115 people for every one person killed in a mass killing in 2012.

Where is the media on Banning alcohol which causes drunken behavior which causes driving accidents which causes killings?

Shouldn't every drunk driver that kills someone be executed???

Instead of addressing drunk driving, democrats want to increase the carnage by legalizing marijuana. If there are 30,000 drunk drivers on the road, those roads will be made safer by adding 30,000 drivers high on pot.

Sliding off topic here but it is not the 'democrats' who want to legalize marijuana. It's the American public. Something republicans might not quite grasp.

Ummmm......does the fact completely escape you that your own post and everything you wrote and linked to is concrete evidence that regulation and the right laws can have an impact on a public issue. In this case, drunk driving.

Thanks for providing proof that the right laws and regulations CAN and DO reduce the problem.

So why isn't there a media blitz against drunk driving i.e. stories blasting the news every day?
Is it because there are too many deaths due to drunk driving that we accept it?

OR is there a bias?

Just asking why the 2,710,000 results in a google search "Newtown shooting" that happened less then a month ago... yet..
a google search for "drunk driving deaths" had About 69,700 results.

Drunk drivers KILLED 10,228 people in 2010 or 11,000% more people than mass killings... YET "Newtown shootings" just one shooting has 3,000% more results in less then one month!

Something is very very wrong when 10,228 deaths are overshadowed by 88 and the ONLY difference is the killing device!
I.E. drunk driving a car is OK... being mentally deranged and using a gun is not!

Homicides and mass killings in the United States, 2006-10

About every two weeks in the United States, four or more people (not including the killer) die in a mass killing. Some get little media attention. As frequent as they are, however, mass killings make up only about 1% of the roughly 15,000 people murdered in the U.S. each year.

Without more complete records, it is impossible to know whether mass killings increased over those years — though they have become less common since the mid-1990s, according to Grant Duwe, director of research at the Minnesota Department of Corrections, who has studied mass murders.

The killings between 2006 and 2010, however, offer a portrait of mass murder that in many ways belies the stereotype of a lone gunman targeting strangers:

Lone gunmen, such as the one who terrorized Sandy Hook Elementary School last week, account for less than half of the nation's mass killers. About a quarter of mass murders involve two or more killers.

A third of mass killings didn't involve guns at all. In 15 incidents, the victims died in a fire. In 20 others, the killer used a knife or a blunt object. When guns were involved, killers were far more likely to use handguns than any other type of weapon.

Children are frequently victims. At least 161 who died in mass killings -- roughly one in five -- were 12 and younger.

Mass murderers tend to be older than other killers, with an average age of nearly 32 years old. Like all killers, they are overwhelmingly men.

Mass killings occur in USA once every two weeks

LOL, if this thread is not proof that our education system needs an overhaul, I don't know what is.

What makes you think I'm a right winger (or as Seinfeld says.."not that there's anything wrong with that")?
I'm making a common sense observation.
Death is death. When you carelessly and knowingly cause a death by drunk driving why is there a difference between a drunk driver and a crazy shooter?
Both are responsible but MY major point is there is so much made of the tool used to kill i.e. a car versus a gun that is way out of proportion to the net results!
WHY???

Because criminalizing it has been so successful, right?

I never disputed that! I was simply pointing out the gross disproportion of the MSM coverage i.e. drunk drivers kill 115 more people then a mass shooter.. but no major news about that! WHY...
Actually it appears that current gun legislation is working quite well if there were ONLY 88 MASS gun killings from 16 events!
If drunk driving had the same obvious legislation the 20,000 gun laws have maybe we'd see only 1,000 deaths a year from drunk drivers!

I mean what about putting on the news every nite a story about a drunk driving death that day... I mean the networks did that regarding IrAQ!!!
Every night a list of soldiers killed in Iraq... I say the same dedicated effort to reducing the 10,000 deaths a year from drunk driving... could be done!!!

Are you against that???
