I just saw this breaking news story on TV about a 77 year old mother who moved to another state to live with her daughter. She had been voting every election since 1956. She had a brand new ID card from her home state but her new state wouldn't accept it as proof and state law said she must have a Birth Certificate. She said that where she was born, most black people her age didn't have Birth Certificates.

Her daughter said they filed a lawsuit.

Haven't found any other stories about this. It will be interesting to see what happens.

On the same show, they showed a Wisconsin Republican committing voter fraud:

Then maybe she should just provide a 'certificate of live birth'.

You must have missed this part:

state law said she must have a Birth Certificate. She said that where she was born, most black people her age didn't have Birth Certificates.

So what, where the Hussein was born they didn't issue birth certificates. It didn't stop him from getting a 'certificate of live birth' from a state fifty years later.

Exactly what election has she not be allowed to vote it? Last time I checked Wisconsin had not weighed in on anything yet.

Maybe she should have voted absentee. One of the reasons the USSC upheld Indiana's voter ID law was that you do not need picture ID vote absentee.

Then she was not telling the truth. It is impossible to live and get along without being able to prove who you are. You cant cash checks, work (unless you are from Mexico) apply for benefits of any type, go to collage (unless you are from Mexico) enroll your kids in school (unless you are from Mexico), so in short, its bullshit.

Hawk, some states issue "Certificate of Live Birth". I listed a couple months ago. The state is ignoring the principle of COMITY. If you are arrested in Florida because you don't have a FLORIDA driver's license, that would be OK with you?

She has an ID card from her prior state of residence. Most places allow affidavits in lieu of photo ID. If not, the woman is being denied the right to vote.

You're not serious.

If that was their law then I would make sure I didn't drive in Florida without a FL license :eusa_whistle:

I just watched her daughter on TV just a little while ago. The daughter's name was "Debra Crawford". I didn't catch the state. But that was the daughter's story. She said she filed a lawsuit.

You do not have to be a citizen of the US to cash checks, go to (sic) collage or enroll your kids in school. You do have to have ID.

What people need to understand is that Mexican citizens come in to the US every single day. They have businesses here, they shop, they spend huge amount of money. And, they go home (to Mexico) every night.

Don't believe me? Drive around the parking lots of the Costcos in Tucson on any day. Check out the license plates. Mexican citizens bring a huge amount of money into the US every single day.

Or they stay in the US - legally.

In spite of the hooey the R's force feed you you really cannot get most (welfare) benefits if you are not a citizen.

As for the op, this is exactly what the R's want - stop those who are likely to vote Dem.

Bullshit. She needs a birth certificate in order to vote. We're supposed to take her word that " where she was born, most black people her age didn't have Birth Certificates"? What the fuck does that mean? Did they lose their birth certificates? Were they never given birth certificates? What hospital doesn't give brith certificates? She should still be able to go back to her home state and find some kind of record.

No, they said she had a letter from the state saying they had no birth certificates on record for anyone in a certain area before a certain date. The daughter said her mother used that letter every time she went to get an ID.

How old are you? People older than me sometimes have a very hard time getting past info because there were no computers. Things were done by hand. Many states kept records stacked in cardboard boxes in old warehouses. My cousin's school burned down and the only proof she even went to school was her old torn and tattered diploma.

Do you seriously think everyone was born in a hospital? Do you know what "midwives" are? This is what's wrong with the right wing today. They have no sense of history, no knowledge of history and no sense.

You know dean, you're making a lot of claims based on what you say you saw on TV.

Exactly how do we know you're not making this all up?
