71 House Repubs think it's fine that Russia annexed Crimea

I have a question for all of you Angela Merkel-loving leftists with regard to Russia, Ukraine and Crimea.

If Angela Merkel is so outraged about Russia and the Crimea, why then do they do so much business with Russia? And why are you so quiet about it?

not so quiet really....
(2014)....
Putin defended the vote in a phone call on Sunday with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, saying it complied with international law, including Article 1 of the U.N. Charter which states the principle of self-determination of peoples. "It was emphasized that Russia will respect the choice of the Crimean people," a Kremlin statement said.

International sanctions during the Ukrainian crisis - Wikipedia
In addition to the sanctions, Russian President Vladimir Putin has accused the United States of conspiring with Saudi Arabia to intentionally weaken the Russian economy by decreasing the price of oil.[7] By mid-2016, Russia had lost an estimated $170 billion due to financial sanctions, with another $400 billion in lost revenues from oil and gas.[8]

economics seem always an undertone....

You didn't answer my question. If Merkel is so outraged, then why do they continue to purchase Russian energy?

I'll help you. Merkel doesn't really care.

FACT SHEET: European Reassurance Initiative and Other U.S. Efforts in Support of NATO Allies and Partners

Since early March, the United States has taken action, both bilaterally and through NATO, to reassure allies of our solemn commitment to their security and territorial integrity as members of the NATO Alliance. A persistent U.S. air, land, and sea presence in the region, especially in Central and Eastern Europe, is a necessary and appropriate show of support to allies who have contributed robustly and bravely to Alliance operations in Afghanistan and elsewhere and who are now deeply concerned by Russia’s occupation and attempted annexation of Crimea and other provocative actions in Ukraine. The United States stands by its allies, as they have stood by us. We will continue to take actions that increase the capability, readiness, and responsiveness of NATO forces to address any threat and that aid in deterring further destabilizing activities. That is why the President today called on Congress to support a European Reassurance Initiative of up to $1 billion, which will enable us in the next year to undertake measures to:

  • Increase exercises, training, and rotational presence across Europe but especially on the territory of our newer allies. Many of the U.S. air and ground forces participating in these activities would rotate from the United States.
  • As we have done in Poland, deploy detachments of U.S. planners to augment the capability of our allies to design and host a broad range of training and exercise opportunities.
  • Increase the responsiveness of U.S. forces to reinforce NATO by exploring initiatives such as the prepositioning of equipment and improvements to other reception facilities and infrastructure in Europe.
  • Increase participation by the U.S. Navy in NATO naval force deployments, including more persistent deployments to the Black and Baltic seas.
  • Build the partner capacity of close friends such as Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine so they can better work alongside the United States and NATO, as well as provide for their own defense.

President Barack Obama and other world leaders have decided to end Russia's role in the group of leading industrialized nations, the White House said Monday.
The move to suspend Russia's membership in the G8 is the latest direct response from major countries allied against Russia's annexation of Crimea.

"To do so violates the principles upon which the international system is built. We condemn the illegal referendum held in Crimea in violation of Ukraine's constitution.

House passes resolution disapproving of Russia being included in future G7 summits

The House on Tuesday passed a resolution disapproving of Russia being included in future Group of Seven (G-7) summits in a 339-71 vote on Tuesday.

The resolution was introduced by Rep. Albio Sires (D-N.J.) in August after President Trump said in August he believed Russia should be readmitted into the G-7. Russia was expelled from the G-8 in 2014 due to its occupation of territory in Ukraine.

The resolution includes language reiterating the United States’ support for Ukraine while denouncing the country’s occupation of Crimea and destabilization in the region.
............................................................................................................................
Incidentally, they also think all should be forgotten with respect to Russia's attack on our democracy during the 2016 election (and what Russia is currently doing to corrupt the 2020 election according to the intel agencies) because Dear Leader wants them to.

Which begs the question....................why does Dear Leader want them to?

Which brings another question to mind. Why hasn't Trump done...........basically anything...........to help secure the upcoming election from foreign influence? Is his sensitivity to admitting Russia helped him in 2016 so great he refuses to address a dire national security matter for 2020? Apparently so.

Actually, the Russian Federation invaded Crimea during the Obama Regime, and Obama did not contest it in spite of his party's guarantees to Ukraine in 1993 made to get Ukraine to surrender its defensive capabilities.

History teaches us, BTW, that Crimea was part of the Russian Federation until 1954, when it was annexed by the Ukrainian SSR. At that time, Ukrainian strongman Nikita Khrushchev was rising to the top of the food chain in the Soviet Union.

The only one with an issue is the Ukrainian government.
Hmmmmmmmmm. Is that true? Nope. The international community recognized it as the first illegal military occupation of another country's land since WW II and responded accordingly.

U.S., other powers kick Russia out of G8
Well, being under the thumb of the US government didn't have any influence on those acts at all.

Pretending Russia doesn't exist is not a foreign policy.

Not to mention it was Obama who told Romney Russia was no threat. Then did nothing as Russia "meddled" in our election.

View attachment 293307
Pretending Russia doesn't exist? No one is suggesting we do that. The question is, why does Trump want to reward Putin for meddling in our election and occupying part of a country that is an ally? And why isn't he doing more to protect the US from future election influence on the part of foreign countries?
It was Obama that let Russia take over Crimea. Obama also stated that no one could meddle in our elections. Was he lying?

Then, along with bowing to Putin by trying to remove sanctions on Russia and pushing for Russia to be let back in to the G-7, Trump defunded the initiative to help Ukraine started by Obama to fund Trump's useless wall.

Election security? Trump admin has no central plan, no one in charge

Why does the federal government need to supervise election security which is the responsibility of individual states? You do realize we have 51 independent organizations called states and the District of Columbia to manage presidential elections, right? It's called federalism. There is no US government organization that supervises the conduct of elections in those states and DC..

I have seen here and elsewhere that Obummer "let" Russia take over Crimea. WTF do you clowns think that he could do to stop it? Crimeans voted for the secession and admission into Russia. Short of getting a bunch of U.S. GIs killed and starting WWIII nothing was going to keep it from happening. Morons advocating the death of their fellow countrymen over shit that doesn't matter when they have no skin in the game.
