61% of Americans favor collective bargaining rights

It is so funny to see these brainwashed right wingers trying to defend the plutocracy whose enemies are teachers, police, firefighters, and prison guards.

I think this is something that will wake up America to the fact that the Republican Party has been trying to destroy the middle class for years.

Their ideal is Dickensian England.

why do people on the right think they can just say anything they want and people would believe it?

23% of people who don't think the helth care bill went far enough does not in any way mean that 38% of those who dissapprove of it now can be grouped into the same and make a statement that 61% are opposed to to having a health care bill.

But you go right ahead and be stupid and continue to post such lies as you want, we all know your not smart enough to figure it out esp since FOX news gave you the talking point.

Poll: Americans favor union bargaining rights - USATODAY.com

MADISON, Wis. — Americans strongly oppose laws taking away the collective bargaining power of public employee unions, according to a new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll. The poll found 61% would oppose a law in their state similar to such a proposal in Wisconsin, compared with 33% who would favor such a law.

Republican Gov. Scott Walker and Republican legislators in Wisconsin have proposed cutting union rights for most state government workers and making them pay more for benefits. Ohio, New Jersey, Indiana, Iowa and other states with Republican governors are considering similar laws.

Yet another one of your "poles" huh? They worthless. Oh yeah, I forgot .... not if they support YOUR socialist BS.

Ohio Republicans are back tracking on collective bargaining

Ohio Senate Republicans say they will not eliminate collective bargaining

Wednesday, February 23, 2011 03:17 PM

The Columbus Dispatch

Senate Republicans now say they will not eliminate collective bargaining for state workers, although state unions would be able to negotiate only for wages.

Senate President Tom Niehaus, R-New Richmond, said Senate Bill 5 would still ban unions from bargaining for benefits, including health insurance.

Speaking with reporters on the Senate floor today, Niehaus said changes to Senate Bill 5 also would prohibit all state and local government workers from striking. The bill would continue to eliminate binding arbitration to resolve disputes with police and firefighter unions, which current are barred from striking.

Asked what recourse in negotiations public employees would have without the right to strike, Niehaus said, "They're still going to have civil service protections."

I would have thought the first thing they teach you in Politics 101 is don't fuck with firefighters, cops, nurses, and teachers.

Nothing dumb about it.

The Republican's enemies are teachers, cops, and firefighters who are in a union.

And their friends are the oil companies, the chemical companies, and Wall Street.

There are two models for society.

1) FDR > "Mixed or Managed Economy" > markets regulated on behalf of the consumer. Strong financial, environmental, and anti-trust regulations. The prevention of too big to fail monopolies, i.e., the prevention of monsters like AIG who undervalue risk because their size means they cannot be allowed to fail. Progressive taxation designed to give the state revenue to invest in infrastructure and the middle class (in a myriad of ways from public universities to affordable health services to programs designed to strengthen demand during downturns). This leads to broadly shared financial and political power. This is what America had in the 50s and 60s. Strong unions meant that workers were included in the national prosperity. This also meant workers had more money, which lead to higher levels of consumption, which forced the capitalist to innovate and add jobs in order to capture that demand.

2) Reagan > "Monopoly Capitalism" > a minority of wealthy Americans use their wealth to staff Washington and buy media. Through their control of media, they use the culture war to get uneducated patriots to vote for policies which strengthen monopolies and concentrated corporate power. Under monopoly capitalism, the rich pay lower and lower taxes until government is forced to unwind its support of the middle class -- which leads to a 3rd world distribution structure where you have concentrated pockets of wealth surrounded by massive disenfranchised impoverished workers aka cheap labor.
