$6.00 a gallon for gas in Florida

Funny how you left this part out

"a position which puts him at odds with the president-elect. "

and this part

"Raising the federal gasoline tax, however, has been dismissed by Obama. "

Keep cherry picking though, from articles from before Obama was actually even in office. Sad really.
Obama doesn't have to raise the gasoline TAX. Just keep production down, kill thousands of jobs by not allowing the pipeline, keep buying from the Arabs...the price will continue to rise JUST LIKE THEY WANT IT T DO.

So you have no actual proof of intent. Just like I thought.
He chose his energy secretary and even after his energy secretary said he wanted to see prices hit european levels, he kept him.

You dont see that as proof?

Obama Energy Pick Backs Higher Gas Tax - ABC News

ABC News’ Teddy Davis Reports: Barack Obama’s pick for Department of Energy secretary backs higher gasoline taxes, a position which puts him at odds with the president-elect.
"Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe," Steven Chu, the director of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, told the Wall Street Journal in September.

This man is Obama's Secretary of Energy.

Liberalism is a mental disorder.

So you believe that the President was truly at odds with his pick for energy secretary as it pertains to the prices of energy?

Sure...on the outside, Obama will say that....but if he truly was at odds with that idea...why in hell would he appoint the man as energy secretary...or not dismiss him seeing as that is the primary scope of repsonsibility of the enrgy secretary.

I mean...it is like appointing someone as secretary of state who says "I want to start a world war"..and then sticking with that pick but saying "I dont agree with her"

As for not wanting to raise gas tax....he couldnt do it for he promised 95% of the people they would not see an increase in taxes.

That was 2008, if Obama supported what the Sec. of Energy was advocating, don't you think we would have seen some policy change by now and an increase on the gas tax to boost the cost to what he was advocating?

Has that happened?

Man...your partisanship has you not looking at things logically.

My partisanship? I'm simply calling people out for making ridiculous claims like the president HATES half the country or that the president intends to raise gas prices to that of Europe. I'm simply calling out the over the top bullshit.

Yet, you try and defend it. Now who is being partisan?

"Global oil demand is forecast to climb". That is the February oil market report.

Since oil futures are based on forecasts, then if everyone thinks the demand for oil is going to rise, then that will cause the price of oil futures to rise.

And since speculators now make up the majority of oil futures trading, we could be seeing a repeat of 2008 again.

Obama has about as much control over oil futures as Bush did. Blaming Obama for the price of oil is sheer ignorance.

There are actions which Congress can take to rein in speculation, but that would require the GOP to go along with it. That would get rid of the speculative factor in gas prices and then we would just be subject to the ordinary market forces of supply and demand.

lol....you are showing your ignorance.

Oil demand is rising becuase of an increase in demand by 3rd world countries.

3rd world countries can not pay the higher prices.

This is a lot deeper than typcial supply and demand.

You ignore basic logic here RDD...

HIS CHOICE FOR ENERGY SECRETARY SAID HE WANTED TO SEE PRICES HIT EUROPEAN LEVELS.

Now, if Obama did not agree with him, he would have dismissed the man.

Why?

Becuase energy pricing is one of his primary responsiobilities.

Basic freaking logic.....

As for policies changes....sometimes, lack of policy changes creates an increase in prices....and that is exactly what we are seeing.

Obama-Bot Translation: High Gas Prices under DA BOOOOOOSH = BAAAAD! High Gas Prices under the Dear Leader = GOOOOD! Funny nutter bots. Waddayagonnado?

Here's some more scary facts for you!

THINGS COST MORE THAN THEY USED TO!
Young people use CURSE words.

Gas has risen 80% since obama has taken office. Maybe he should think about lifting the ban on off shore drilling. Nope I guess he want it will go against his plans to destroy America.

if you understand supply and demand you understand that gas is directly tied to the price of oil. oil is also a commodity which is sold on the open markets and available for speculation. the GOP touts the free market system as the best system in the world. well this is a result of the free market system. if demand outpaces supply, prices increase. which is what is currently happening.

now you may say that its because Obama is limiting drilling on the north american shelf. this again is not true at all. Domestic drilling and oil production is at its highest level in history. the problem is that oil once again is a commodity and its price is set on the open market.

if the president were to unilaterally fix gas prices, then you could actually call him a socialist or a communist. since this is actually a part of the socialist / communist ideology. when the government control, fixes, or alters an industry unilaterally, it is in essence the definition of socialism / communism. if this is what the GOP/TP/Conservative want, its extremely hypocritical.
.....And, it's not-as-if Florida is "starving" for oil......

"The House analysis says 16 oil fields were discovered in Florida before 1981, with seven of them plugged and abandoned. Nine of those abandoned wells are in Northwest Florida, most in the North Escambia area."

Oh yeah? And do you know the reason gas is so high out there in taxpayer land?

Because Barack Obama closed American drilling down in the Gulf and Cuba brought their Russian buddies in to take up the slack, just south of where it is now $6.00 a gallon.

DOH!!!!!

Vote Republican in 2012 & turn that gas puppy around.

Actions speak louder than words to me. Same reason why I don't like that Obama promised more with healthcare than he actually delivered. If I based his performance on what he said, he would be doing a much better job. The opposite is true as well, if his Sec. of Energy makes a claim that Obama hasn't followed through on, should I be upset about what was said or what was done? It's been 3.5 years since that statement, and while fuel prices are high, they are nowhere near Europe, despite whatever grand intentions you think he has.

Florida Drivers Shelling Out Nearly $6 A Gallon At Some Gas Stations « CBS Tampa

TAMPA (CBS Tampa) — Talk about pain at the pump! Some Florida drivers are spending nearly $6 a gallon to fill up their gas tanks.

According to GasBuddy.com, motorists are shelling out $5.89 for a gallon of regular gas at a Shell station in Lake Buena Vista, topping out at $5.99 a gallon for premium. It doesn’t get better at a Suncoast Energy station in Orlando, where drivers are paying $5.79 for a gallon of regular.

What GOOD NEWS for democrats. If this doesn't put a lock on obama's keeping his job, everyone is just racist. Democrats will tell you how high prices are good for the ecoonomy.

That is in the heart of "Disposable Income Land".
That whole area is out to gouge prices on everything.

Supply is up and demand is down.

Now what?
how is demand down?

the wall street journal shows oil demand at its highest level currently, although it is forecast to fall later this year.

you are mnissing the point here RDD...

I am not saying that Obama or his energy secretary would force prices to reach european levels.

I am referring to ideology.

If you have a man who would like to see that, it dsoesnt mean he will push policies t6o make it happen. But he most certainly would make recommendations t5hat are in the interest of seeing that happen...and more importantly.....make recommendations that would prevent the OPPOSITE from happening.

Lets use Sec of state as an example.

If Hillary said to Obama when he was vetting for a sec of state..."I hate them there muslims and I want to see all of those countries obliterated, but, of course, I will do what you want for you are the president"...

Would he choose her?

No. Why? Becuase he knows her ideology and the integrity of her advice will always be in question.

So....I ask...

If Obama did not like the idea of gas prices rising, why would he pick an adviser of energy who wants to see gas prices rise?

you would need OPEC to increase supply to have any kind of affect on world markets. how is this an Obama decision?

The average tax (Fed, state and local) on a gallon of gas is 48 cents. The oil companies profit on that same gallon of gas is 2 cents.

Perhaps if gasoline prices rise high enough, americans will start to conserve more, take public transportation, drive smaller cars, and realize fossil fuels are a thing of the past...............lol

2 cents on a gallon of gas is a bit hard to believe.
can you provide a link about this?

i actually found your "evidence" and it from an exxon blog. a perfectly credible source.

According to this post on Exxon Mobil's Perspective Blog , "For every gallon of gasoline, diesel or finished products we manufactured and sold in the United States in the last three months of 2010, we earned a little more than 2 cents per gallon. That’s not a typo. Two cents."
Update: ExxonMobil is now reporting that for its retail gasoline operations in the U.S., it made an average profit of 7 cents per gallon during the first quarter of 2011.
