5 Myths About the Chinese Communist Party - By Richard McGregor | Foreign Policy

Myth #1: "China Is Communist in Name Only."

Wrong. If Vladimir Lenin were reincarnated in 21st-century Beijing and managed to avert his eyes from the city's glittering skyscrapers and conspicuous consumption, he would instantly recognize in the ruling Chinese Communist Party a replica of the system he designed nearly a century ago for the victors of the Bolshevik Revolution. One need only look at the party's structure to see how communist -- and Leninist -- China's political system remains.

Sure, China long ago dumped the core of the communist economic system, replacing rigid central planning with commercially minded state enterprises that coexist with a vigorous private sector. Yet for all their liberalization of the economy, Chinese leaders have been careful to keep control of the commanding heights of politics through the party's grip on the "three Ps": personnel, propaganda, and the People's Liberation Army.

A very interesting article that not only gives more insight into China but also the ruling power of the country.

1) The Party remains the Party. It has never embraced communism, but something like the authoritarian bureaucratic collectivism of the CCCP. It is the same as all other oligarchies in the end. Anyone who thinks that is communism doesn't know what communism is.

2) China remains oppressive and liberties are few and limited.

3) We should support those pro-democracy persons and groups who would topple the current regime

4) I wasn't aware anyone thought China should be emulated

5) No, it can't. Every empire has eventually fallen. It can rule for a long time, but every empire, every nation, and every regime has eventually passed. It might rule for a long time, it might not, but it will not rule eternally.

Then you haven't been reading the USMB posts from right wingers. Some have said China is actually like a "corporation" with the Head of the Party being the "CEO".

Others have boldly stated that it's great that US Company CEO's invest in China because it will help "open them up" and "teach them what capitalism is all about".

I don't know how many posts point out the number of "new millionaires" in China and how great that is and how they are not hindered by "job killing" EPA rules and regulations.

And NO, this is not a "landfill". It's a Chinese river.
