I could hardly believe it when I read it. The Air Force wants to award a $40 billion dollar contract to EADS for Airbus 330 aircraft to be used as USAF refuelers. Northrup is getting a cut so it will lend its name to the contract so there is some American content and thereby obfuscate the Euro reality of the deal. EADS claims 25,000 jobs will be created in the US. Right. Is that in the contract? As hirelings, not technology creators, Americans will assemble the Euro technology in Alabama that is actually built in France. This must be the well deserved payback for all the help France and Germany have been in Afghanistan and Iraq. Had Boeing won the contract, 44,000 jobs would have been created. That according to MSNBC. None of which speaks to the fact that in a recession American tax payer dollars will go to creating thousands of Euro jobs while simultaneously building their aerospace engineering and manufacturing capability at the expense of doing so in the US. The Air Force generals responsible for this decision said that jobs in the US played no part in their decision. They should be sacked. And Congress should reverse this deal. What chance, besides zero, would Boeing have in obtaining an analogous contract in Europe? Well, I suppose that is a bad argument because there could be no analogous order for similar aircraft in Europe, since they spend next to nothing on defense compared to the US.

And what does government subsidized Airbus have to do with capitalism? Awaiting your next nonsense response.

Capitalism doesn't mean government doesn't exist or has no prescence. Airbus gets some subsidies, just as Boeing effectively does (although perhaps not anymore...much to the unhappiness of you).

Two large companies competing for the same job. You want to give it to the American one because they are American. The Air Force wants to give it to whoever will do the best job. That is capitalism. Its amusing that you are all gung ho about it and insult the "European collective" (which is a hilarious way to try to imply that they are socialists...omg a bunch of states working together with a federal multi-state government....I heard they were going to call it the "united states", but that name was already taken), but capitalism is only good as long as its helping you and yours, eh? Then just throw it out the window.

Boeing would have a monopoly on such contracts if the AF was forced to choose an American company.
In fact, acting like they had a monopoly is what led them to make such a poor bid and lose the contract.

I feel bad for the 44,000 Americans who lost the potential work, but not for Boeing.
