Here we go again. Such a tragedy and the victim was only 33 years old and the killers were african american teenagers who did not have to do this. 50 bucks for a life. This was a definate hate crime I believe. I believe that families of the killers are responsible because they obviously didn't teach these kids to be civilized and that you don't kill innocent people trying to make a living.

Culture is more closely associated with ethnicity than race. Ethnic American black culture is far different from that of most other African groups even those which reside in the US. American black culture and mainstream American culture really aren't that different at all.

American culture in general has ALWAYS glorified violence, gangsterism, and thuggish behavior. Who started the first inner city street gangs? Certainly not negroes. You have to look at the concept of prohibition and how it has shaped American culture and it's subcultures as a whole. During prohibition in the 20s and 30s gangsterism rose in American culture. Now during the drug trade gangsterism again has reared it's head in American culture. However just like gangsterism in the 20s largely involved white inner city mobsters now it involves black American "hood rats".

The fact is Black American Culture is more of a sub-culture of the American Mainstream then it is tied to the various cultures within the African Diaspora. Which is why when people from the Caribbean and Africa come to America they literally separate themselves from "American blacks".

I understand your point of 'glorifying violence' but that is not the real day-to-day culture of blacks or whites. eating sleeping working learning parenting planning etc are nuts and bolts of culture. a telling example of the difference between black and white culture (and perhaps the genetic tendencies that influence culture) is the difference in behaviour at school between W/B children. and I am not talking about inner city schools. regular middle class and upwards schools. the black rate for disciplinary action and suspensions is multiples of the white rate, and the academic achievement is fractions. teachers and principals are willing to do anything to reverse these findings but there has been little success. one upscale community called in a black academic to diagnose the problem; they were not pleased with the results
