The history of the codification of the quran is interesting. According to the history, muhammad, an illiterate cave-dweller, had the "revelations" from allah written by others on rocks and leaves and pieces of leather.

However, many years after muhammad died, although, there is no real evidence of his existence, a later caliph named uthman had the quran re-written, known as the uthmanic quran, which is what exists today. Uthman had other versions of the quran burned and questions have been asked since then what exactly were the reasons for the burning of the other qurans and whether the current quran is even authentic.

Perhaps, even uthman saw that the original qurans were total incoherent gibberish and re-wrote it
