President Would Slap More Taxes on Those Who Make Over $250K to Fund Health Care

President Barack Obama's tax proposal which promises to increase taxes for those families with incomes of $250,000 or more -- has some Americans brainstorming ways to decrease their pay, even if it's just by a dollar.

A 63-year-old attorney based in Lafayette, La., who asked not to be named, told ABCNews.com that she plans to cut back on her business to get her annual income under the quarter million mark should the Obama tax plan be passed by Congress and become law.

So far, Obama's tax plan is being looked at skeptically by both Democrats and Republicans and therefore may not pass at all....

Well I have been preaching Obama's ignorant evil crap for 4 years now...

Of course the die hard partisan libs will continually love him no matter what he does..

We are talking about a man who actually expects to spend 3 trillion dollars on social programs...

I dont think anyone could actually spend 3 trillion on social programs, you could gold plate the projects and still not spend all of that money.

If I were in the position of these people, I'd do the same thing. Obama doesn't have a clue how to run anything. Shouldn't it be a requirement to run for President that you have to have governed a state first? Or perhaps run a successful business? Something that gives you experience in the field of running things? Something that gives you experience of having a clue? The more I see of this guy and the more he pushes his fucking agenda the clearer his 'Chicago liberal socialist punkass self' becomes. How anyone voted for him is beyond me.

Obama got elected by Bush's mistakes, no doubt, and by 'American Idol' popularity pushed by the MSM and by spewing horseshit that ignorant people lapped up. Stupidly and blindly, they thought it was 'change' flavored koolaid.

Why stop there, neo-cons?

Why not make nothing whatever, and test your precious theories about what a happy skate being on welfare is?

Go ahead...make my day.

I bet she's lying.

of course she is.... the wack jobs always lie.

And these idiots, who demand "proof" of Obama's place of birth, (no matter what the supreme court says) believe some unnamed person ....

see how they feel about unnamed sources when it means they have to believe the current administration.

I wouldn't believe these loonies if their tongues were notarized.

And our friend, Annie, is going to LOVE the stimulus bill when it means she has a job next term.

I'm with Ravi. I bet she's lying. We know that cons (cough, cough Joe not the Plumber) wil lie about their personal circumstances to parrot a rightwing talking point to media.

Please explain why the economy boomed when clinton raised the top marginal tax rate on the rich in 1993. thanks.

there would be no benefit to pair their business down....the op is utterly ridiculous and i have to wonder if these people mouthing this crap even do their own taxes or understand how the tax structures works?

Sounds to me like they are cluless, absolutely clueless...

let's say your taxable income is $280k instead of the 249.9k, the only extra taxes they would pay in income taxes is the difference between 35% in taxes and 28% in taxes ON THE 30K over the 250k only.

so in this case, for making $30,000 MORE, they will have to pay about $2100 more in taxes than they did under their previous tax structure.

So, for $30k more in taxable income they will pay $10,500 in taxes verses $8400 that they would be paying if the tax break of their bracket did not expire in 2011.

Bringing home almost $20k out of that $30k with the new tax structure....

are you saying that this woman in the article would really keep her own income down to avoid paying a 7% increase on her taxable income over and above the $250k....and she would turn down the $20k extra she could add NET to her yearly earnings?

Bulloneyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

dayum, check out the brain on care!

this lady is lying. She's pulling a joe the plumber....making up an invented story so she can parrot something she heard on the limbaugh show.

either she doesn't understand taxes, or she's flat out lying about owning a business and how much income she makes......much like joe not the plumber did when he got in front of the camera for the first time.

Either that Care, or she is an extremely stupid lawyer. If she was my lawyer I'd fire her...not just for being stupid, but also for being lazy. Imagine if you had her represent you for a case that needed a little extra effort, lol, she'd not be bothered with it and you'd be up a creek.

Touched a nerve I see. ABC going out of their way to harm Obama? Nope. You know there's problems here and they weren't of your or my making.

I do not understand how this lawyer could even state she would try to earn less because of the $700 bucks extra she would be paying in income taxes for every $10k net in taxable income she earned more of, over and above the $250knet?

It is such a phony argument???? I just don't know what woodwook these people come out of....?

And yes, i would never want her as a lawyer, the lazy bum....no one should want her as a lawyer, truthfully, from either side of the aisle....she's nothing but a dumb, lazy ass idiot imo.... and it takes alot for me to say this about someone, especially if i don't really know them....but for goodness sakes she is suppose to be well educated.....sheeesh!

Care,

Some of the folks here suvive on an exclusive diet of intellectual bologna.

If one of them calls bologna a balanced diet, ten more will come in to swear it is and that they and their family have been suriving on it for centuries.

It's pointless to argue with liars and fools, dear.

Unless it amuses you, of course.

but Willow, all of those taxes were there in the first place and they are there for all of us, no matter the tax bracket, and you can add gasoline taxes to those as well and property taxes as well...?

those taxes are not being raised by letting the tax break expire? only the income tax portion, which amounts to only $700 more for every $10,ooo more she makes in taxable income....than what she pays in taxes right at this moment?

It absolutely makes no sense in saying paying $700 more in income taxes for another $10k of taxable income is not worth the effort....just no sense but being absolutely clueless or absolutely the laziest person around....imo.

there are many people that would gladly cross the threshold of 15% tax bracket in to a 25% tax bracket and only hope they get could their income up to a 35% tax bracket level....trust me on that....

Precisely as I see it.

If someone wants to prove a point and cut back signficantly on their income just so they don't have to pay a little more in taxes, then I say "Have fun!"

Okay, I've got to be honest here; this woman is not real bright. That's her perogative though. I'm not thrilled with the tax increase on the wealthy. I'm not too upset though, but I do think that $250,000 is too low of a number. This starts the tax increase at a much lower level than it did under Clinton. I believe Clinton started the highest bracket at $280,000 to $290,000. When it was first put in place, the number was lower, but those levels were raised yearly to account for inflation. Based on that, the number should be closer to $350,000 now.

Here's the thing. The rate increase only effects income over $250,000. If this woman makes $350,000, she will be taxed an additional $4600. On the additional $100,000 of income over the $250,000, she'll pay $39,600 instead of the current $35,000. On the first $250,000, she'll pay what she paid before. So, in this example, she would be choosing to give up $60,400, less her state taxes, just so she doesn't have to pay the extra $4600 in taxes.

I know if I was in her shoes, I'd be upset about having to pay more. But I sure as hell wouldn't choose to reduce my income by such a large amount just because I had to pay an extra $4600.
