24 secret atheist congressmen/women?

Let's guess how many are LIBTARDS.

Because theists are the ones who ply their rhetorical trade with terms like "tards" and see the world in a good/evil dichotomy? Because seeking an alternative to blind acceptance of Ye Same Olde Thingge requires skills called "critical thinking"?

Yeah that's why I hope it's true. And would hope there are way more than 24.

There is no critical thinking involved in atheism.
Not one man in a thousand has either strength of mind or goodness of heart to be an Atheist. I repeat, not one man in a thousand has either strength of mind or goodness of heart to be an Atheist.

Deciding whether something is, or is not, true does not constitute critical thinking?

What does blindly following what you are told involve?

I don't blindly follow anything. I know enough to know that man is incapable of proclaiming a higher power cannot exist. Talk about arrogance.

Are you kidding? Do you know how hard it was to deny the god everyone my whole life has told me if I doubt him I'll go to hell?

I never could take the bible stories literally although that didn't turn me into a full blown agnostic atheist. I was just one of those christians who didn't take the bible literally. It took me years to realize if the bible is a fraud then why am I even following it?

I could also never believe all non christians would go to hell. But even with that I found some liberal christians who could explain their twist on that. Those people they believe would get one last chance. Good Jews, Muslims and Atheists could repent in the last hour. I could never buy all this.

In fact there are hundreds of things I could never buy about christianity or any of the other 999 religions that came before or after. So I turned into a BOSS who had a personal relationship with god, just didn't follow any organized religion.

Then I watched a bunch of atheists and met a bunch and they were able to help me realize that if none of the religions are real, then neither is god.

OR, if there is a god, he doesn't care about us. It'd be like you caring about a maggot that comes out of your shit. Just like a fish or turkey or deer, when you die, that's it. You are just another animal.

Beyond that, what does anyone know? And it's liberating. You should try jacking off without your invisible friend watching and judging you.

That's right. What the hell do you know, other than the fact that you are an angry petulant child?

It requires ZERO critical thinking to rebel against the norm. All it requires is a closed juvenile mind. Agnosticism requires critical thinking. Atheism is arrogance.

The existence and non-existence of a god are not equally probable outcomes. Thus, belief is not as valid a position as skepticism when dealing with unsupported or unfalsifiable claims. Agnostic atheism is the most rational position.

I guess as an agnostic atheist I have to agree I can not say that man is incapable of proclaiming a higher power cannot exist.

CANNOT I can not say. Probably doesn't I can say.

Says gramma.

And I disagree. Look at the Wallstreet Protesters. What did they call them the 99%ers? Romney called them the Takers? The corporate media was against them. Those kids realized the rich just fucked us big time. Did you guys realize it? No. You made excuses for the rich and defended them. Now lets look at the recent Bank of America settlement where they had to pay the USA back for their fraud. Notice that wasn't a very big story for very long? Ah the corporate media. If they only talk about it for one day it's not a big deal. Basically the rich did fuck the American people over. Where is the outrage? Where is the acknowledgement that the kids were right?

Ok lets look at Viet Nam. Look at how you guys called those kids hippies, commies and socialists and it turned out they were right about the wars.

The youth always challenge the old generation and often times they are right. Kids today don't believe in god as much as they did when we were young, and my generation didn't believe as much as my parents generation believed. It has to do with education, the internet and living in the age of enlightenment.

Re: "Don't believe in God? Join the club"

There's a club? I'm sure there are lots of things I don't believe in, but I don't then join clubs set up for those disbeliefs. I don't believe in fairies either but I'm not about to waste a weekend surrounded by other people who don't. :)

The sad fact is that you can be elected to Congress if you are black, a woman, gay or Muslim

You don't have a chance if you declare yourself to be an atheist

I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.” – Stephen F Roberts

Normally I would agree but seeing how many people believe in these god(s) and how much they want to demand it be a more important part of our society, I think we should be organized. And I think we could do great things, donate to worthy causes and improve our image. Plus we get a lot of shit from theists. It would be nice to get together once a week with like minded people so we don't feel so alone. Thank god for the internet. What would us atheists do without it. LOL

Why All Of The Atheists In Congress Are Closeted ThinkProgress

Outside of prominent roles in television or the music industry, being elected to national office is often one of the most visible steps a minority group can take to win acceptance in American society. Yet, for the millions of Americans who openly identify as atheist, the goal of political representation currently remains just out of reach: At present, no one in the 113th Congress identifies as an atheist.

But when Maggie Ardiente of the American Humanist Association spoke to Brian Pellot of the Religion News Service earlier this month, she let slip a striking revelation about a potential hidden “atheist caucus” on Capitol Hill.

“We already know of 24 members of Congress who have told us privately that they don’t believe in God, but they won’t come out, of course, and if we tried to out them they would deny it,” Ardiente said.

Bet its true but BFD.

I was told recently that there are more people who do not believe in God - do not serve God in political office both Congress and Senate - than at any other time in History. It makes sense because our nation has never been in worse shape then it is right now. We're going over the cliff here. ( so to speak )
