New ebook Argues 2012 is a Referendum on George W. Bush

Every president since Gerald Ford has attended his party’s first convention after leaving office. Not George W. Bush. His name was barely mentioned in Tampa, or during the GOP primaries, or in any of thousands of Republican campaign ads aired so far this cycle.

Yet during this 2012 race the legacy of his administration is to Republicans like the proverbial elephant in the room, a presence too embarrassing to recognize but too overwhelming not to matter. In poll after poll, voters blame the poor economy not on Obama, but on Bush — and Bush’s policies are hard to distinguish from Romney’s. The Romney campaign has tried to make the race a referendum on Obama. It is shaping up, ironically, to be a referendum on Bush.

A new ebook, Elephant in the Room: Washington in the Bush Years, explores why, despite efforts to airbrush him out of today’s political conversation, the 43rd president remains central to it.

Whether you’re a liberal or a conservative, Elephant in the Room is a timely and important book premised on the idea that comprehending what went wrong in Washington during the Bush years is key to understanding what can be done to set the country right.

What an interesting concept. And it is true that the GOP would like to forget GWB even existed. He is NEVER mentioned in the Romney campaign at all.

Nice attempt to deflect from Barack Hussein Obama's failed record.

Why is his record never mentioned?

When will Barack Hussein Obama own his failed presidency?

Indeed. In this case what can be done is keep Romney and his Bush Era fiscal policies out of the WH.

Interesting and accurate.

And the right’s efforts to expunge Bush from republican political history is remarkable and telling.

Everything we give the bastard credit for.... you dummies blame on Dubya.

I do not need to read some slobbering bullshit to know exactly what he has done to destroy the middle class, divert The Constitution, and attempt to bring us down to the level of the rest of the world.

Thanks, but no thanks.

No it isn't, its a beauty contest with two mediocre lookin' contestants.

Still stuck on Bush, you need serious mental health care and soon...

If Romney would put PRyan in an "undisclosed location" or keeping him babbling at the Vichy Americans, govern from the center as he did in Mass., he'll be ok.

I am not one who would like to forget W even existed. Warts and all, he is much better than Gore and Kerry. But, there are LOTS of warts and I wish Forbes had won the primary.

Romney's fiscal policies are not "Bush Era." Romney's not all the great, but he's better than Bush's liberal lite.

Also, there are no efforts to expunge Bush from the republican political history just as there was no Bill Clinton when Gore and Kerry ran.

What a lie. You are one of the people that posts here that never gave President Obama credit for anything and you know it.

He did not destroy the constitution, destroy the middle class, or bring us down. Why must you persist in these lies???

Lastly, when has GWB ever been criticized on these boards by any right winger??? You people act like he was perfect!!! And that's nuts. You blame Obama for everything and that's ridiculous. You'd better clean your own house first.

Ryan still would remain a heartbeat away from the Presidency. With that in mind, why should any sane person vote for Romney.

The debt belongs to Bush, true. UNEMPLOYMENT is Obama's.

Bullshit, Peach. Where I work, we went down to less than one half of our normal workforce in the last month of 2008. In a two steps forward, one step back pattern, we are slowly getting back to a full work force.

The unemployment belongs to Bush, and the GOP that obstructs any attempt to bring that employment back up through infrastructure projects. Remember, Senate Minority Leader McConnel did not say that his, and his parties, primary objective was to see more Americans gainfully employed. Instead, he state that the primary objective was to see that the President lost this election. And he, and the GOP, have done everything they possibly can to prevent any real economic recovery in order to take this election. And the polls are reflecting the fact that the American voters realize this.

LOL, well why would they want to run on Dear Leaders record

Doubt running against Bush or this made us legacy from the left about him with Obama's lovely record of over 8% unemployment the FOUR YEARS he's been King is going to work this time...but as we see they HAVE NOTHING else
