2010 situation grows more difficult for Democrats

WASHINGTON (AP) - An already difficult situation for Democrats in Congress is worsening as the 2010 political season opens.
To minimize expected losses in next fall's election, President Barack Obama's party is testing a line of attack that resurrects George W. Bush as a boogeyman and castigates Republicans as cozy with Wall Street.
Four House Democrats from swing districts have recently chosen not to seek re-election, bringing to 11 the number of retirements that could leave Democratic-held seats vulnerable to Republicans. More Democratic retirements are expected.
Over the holiday break, another Democrat, freshman Rep. Parker Griffith of Alabama, defected to the GOP. "I can no longer align myself with a party that continues to pursue legislation that is bad for our country, hurts our economy, and drives us further and further into debt," said Griffith, who voted against Democrats' three biggest initiatives in 2009: health care, financial regulation and reducing global warming.
In the Senate, at least four Democrats - including Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada and five-term Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd - are in serious trouble. The party could also lose its grip on seats Obama held in Illinois and Vice President Joe Biden long occupied in Delaware.
Going into 2010, Democrats held a 257-178 majority in the House and an effective 60-40 majority in the Senate, including two independents who align themselves with Democrats.
But they face an incumbent-hostile electorate worried about a 10 percent unemployment rate, weary of wars and angry at politicians of all stripes. Many independents who backed Democrats in 2006 and 2008 have turned away. Republicans, meanwhile, are energized and united in opposing Obama's policies.
The one thing that heartens Democrats is that voters also don't think much of the GOP, which is bleeding backers, lacking a leader and facing a conservative revolt.
House Democrats began an ad campaign in December assailing Republicans for opposing legislation restructuring federal financial rules and recalling the final days of the Bush presidency, when the economy tanked.

Another Dem bolts to GOP

This is great folks. These Democrats realize that if they want to keep their jobs...they had better get off this socialist ship which is sinking fast.

Obama is going to be a lame duck president and idiots like Reid and Pelosi will be like a bad dream...America will wake up from a nightmare of socialist Marxist taking over our capatilistic system.

The days of blaming Bush have to come to an end. If they continue that route then, they will be shooting themselves in the foot. Afghanistan is Obama's war now and the lack of taking this war against terrorism seriously will more than likely have a negative affect. More than likely we will hear more from Yemen.

Regardless of what happens.....our country has to survive this experiment with socialism.

From Alabama? What a "shocker".

Oh yes your right rdean. Just ignore the loss. In fact, just ignore any losses for the balance of 2010. Maybe around 2013 take a look around and see what you think.

I love the "Cozy with Wall Street" attack. No one has been more cozy with Wall Street than this current President has. How many $Trillions in Tax Payer dollars has he given to the corporate A*sholes? The Democrats will just look stupid if they go with that out-dated attack plan. My prediction is that their "BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSH AN FOX NOOOOOOOOOOZ" whining will not be enough for them in 2010. Not gonna work for em this time around. We'll see though.

And the reason people should vote for "The Party of No" ?

Should we forget the eight years of Republican control as they forced the largest recession in 70 years, destroyed our reputation around the globe and ran the country into the ground?

2010 will be another bad year for the GOP

2010 will be another bad year for the GOP

1. Because the party of Carter, Clinton & Obama are worse.

2. The 8-years of GOP control included the bad Clinton mortgages, which were the "root cause" of the financial collapse. Those bad mortgages were bundled into CDOs and CDSs and then when the mortgages defaulted, the financial system imploded.
Bill Clinton's drive to increase homeownership went way too far - BusinessWeek

So don't say Bush caused the recession when it clearly was caused by Clinton's giving mortgages to unqualified borrowers. Just look at Fannie & Freddie & Mozillo at Countrywide to see where the bribe money went. (mostly to Obama & Barney Frank)

Definitely gonna be bad for Dems this year, but the article also states...

2010 might be a very interesting year if some decent independents step up. Imagine the horror - neither side gets the gains. Oops. A pox on both their houses.

Amusing.

The party of not just no, but "Fuck NO", that being the Democrats, are a worse choice then the liberals in the GOP. This says something about the abuses of the Democrats.

BTW...The economy was doing pretty well until 2006 when the Democrats started us on the road to the worst recession in 70 years.

After all, rational people understand that the economy is influenced more by the Congress (purse strings) then by the White House.

It is just those who have agendas that think otherwise.

I am giving some serious thought to voting Republican in 2010 versus Independent of some sort. Get the Democrats out first, then replace the Republicans with Independents next time.

Just vote out the incumbents, the ones that survive will get the message.
Oh, they'll all survive...with pensions. They just won't be in control of our lives. Another group of crooks will take there place...and life goes on.

Yes you are right. I never intended death, just voted out of office. If we keep doing that, not voting foe incumbents, we will always have a new group of crooks. they won't get so damn comfortable like they are now.

Dems could lose every House seat except for Pelosi and Barney Frank

433-2

There have been some rumors that constituents are not happy with Pelosi ... the only thing that might get rid of Barney Frank would be a resurgence of Puritan majority occupation of MA.

Or a heart attack.... assuming he has a heart.

Oh, and it's more than just rumors about Pelosi.... her little power base is collapsing. Even the gays are beginning to see thru that bitch.
