Some where in the Deep South.
Had the rear doors on my pickup quit working. I found that Ford used plastic cable retainers on the opening cable. They want about $700 for the replacement part. I found several sites that offer a tip replacement that sells for about $20. The job is not that hard to do. you can find how to on Youtube.com so take a look and fix it yourself guys.

Had a cheap 20 dollar plastic part go on my Jeep. A plastic actuator gear that operated blend doors for duel climate control.
Dealer would charge around 600- 1000 for removal of half the dash to get to gear.
A few hours and a YouTube video fixed myself for that 20 bucks.
I use YouTube for all my repairs.
If its broke, someone fixed it and filmed it too.
Of course a person needs some mechanical aptitude.

Seriously you do no consider a Ford F150 a sensible vehicle?
I had the same problem on mine, fixed it with a tie wrap
