"20%-50% of Republicans are Stupid or Insane" - Former Reagan Official

There is a real fact adverse component to the current republican party.

I'm not sure why but they insist on believing lies.

Its truely harming the country that they insist on replacing facts with lies.

And this---- from someone who watches the " Dumb Down America channel," MSNBC.:lol::lol::lol: and repeats jokes from comedians as factual.:lol::lol:

This is a poll done by Research 2000 for Daily Kos. Research 2000 constructed a typical poll and asked people to identify whether or not they are Republicans. If they said they were Republicans, they asked a series of questions, which are all listed here.

Daily Kos :: State of the Nation

Of the responses, the following percentages either agreed or didn't know.

Should Obama be impeached? 68%
Obama not born in the US? 58%
Obama wants the terrorists to win? 57%
ACORN stole the election? 76%
Obama is a racist who hates white people? 64%
Should your state secede from the Union? 42%
Should Genesis be taught in public schools? 85%
Should contraception be outlawed? 44%

Here is the methodology of the poll

The Daily Kos Republican Poll was conducted by Research 2000 from January 20 through January 31, 2010. A total of 2003 self identified Republicans were interviewed nationally by telephone. Those interviewed were selected by the random variation of the last four digits of telephone numbers, nationally.

The margin for error, according to standards customarily used by statisticians, is no more than plus or minus 2% percentage points. This means that there is a 95 percent probability that the "true" figure would fall within that range if the entire self identified Republican population were sampled. The margin for error is higher for any demographic subgroup, such as for gender or region.

This is a typical poll.

Bruce Bartlett, who worked as an economist in the Reagan administration had this to say about the poll results.

I can only conclude from this new poll of 2003 self-identified Republicans nationwide that between 20% and 50% of the party is either insane or mind-numbingly stupid.

Why I Am Not a Republican | Capital Gains and Games

I just heard this guy on Pete Dominick's Stand up! show on POTUS. He is excellent, lol, he called Tim Pawlenty a 'goddammed idiot'. :clap2:

Anyone who's been on forums where rightwingers, GOP'ers, and the like congregate should hardly find any of the numbers in that poll surprising.

I would like a better understanding of the questions asked, and how they chose the respondents. It seems the poll was not that random, and they give us answers on interpretations of what might very well be very weird questions.
My experiences with polling is that news organizations do ask lots of questions where there is no possible right answer. I remember being exit polled by NBC news back in 88, and all the poll questions were on Dukakis talking points. There was no way a republican could give a rational response to any of them. They were all along the level of "Do you prefer beating your wife with a hammer or a crowbar?"

Should Barack Obama be impeached, or not?

Yes 39
No 32
Not Sure 29

Do you think Barack Obama is a socialist?

Yes 63
No 21
Not Sure 16

Do you believe Barack Obama was born in the United States, or not?

Yes 42
No 36
Not Sure 22

Do you believe Barack Obama wants the terrorists to win?

Yes 24
No 43
Not Sure 33

Come on. How hard are the questions? Yes, no or unsure?
Thanks for that. There is still the question of how the folks were chosen.

As for me, I have to admit my answers would be no, yes, yes, not sure.
First, because there is no criminal act, Second is obvious from his proposals, third is moot, but he makes it complicated, as do his relatives, fourth..... his actions are weird and make me doubtful at times.

YOU are weird and make ME doubtful at times.

The only stupid ones I see, are the ones who take and use a poll done by the zoo known as Dailykos Website then try and make some point out of it about people..

The poll wasn't done by Daily Kos. It was done by someone else at the request of Daily Kos.

There's a big difference.

I honestly was not surprised by these poll numbers. I was only surprised it wasn't higher in some areas.

the most frightening one is how many think genesis should be taught in schools.

I wasn't surprised. Like I said, many Republicans are all "rah rah rah" about keeping the Government out of their lives, except they want the Government to enforce things like that in school. The whole idea of separation of church and state is a joke to many of them. Because they love to invoke the Founding Fathers except when it gets in the way of their agenda.

Never heard of this pollster before, why is that? now they are the pollsters of all pollster because the DailyKos used them and tells us we "should" believe it.:cuckoo:

Perhaps it's because you never take your head out of the FoxNews Hole.

From Research 2000's website:

Our Polls can be seen on CNN’S “Inside Politics” and are also mentioned frequently in the National Journal’s “Political Hotline”, The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Christian Science Monitor, and The Wall Street Journal.

Yeah, the National Journal and the Wall Street Journal are pretty damn left-wing aren't they?

They only want government out of our lives until it comes to enforcing their religious beliefs.

Me? I'd think feeding people would more accurately represent those purported beliefs.

Well given his policies of Government takeover of large industry, (The government has or had equity interests in the 7 largest banks, the government has a controlling interest in two large car cos. ) The fact of his socialism is kind of hard to dispute. All that really maters now is the flavor. I think he leans to National Socialism, rather than the Trotskyite type, But at this point, that is all there really is to talk about.

As for his acts against terrorism, I find them very confusing. I have my doubts.

As opposed to Large Industry's takeover of Government, which is the right-wing way to go.

Otherwise known as "Fascism" or "Corporate Oligarchy", depending on how many people they put in charge as figureheads.

LMAO........any former "Reagan Official" is a veritable fossil...............

For many Republicans, it's not just religious beliefs either they want enforced.

Obviously that won't happen. You saw it a couple months ago when I posted the thread I think. The Catholic Church in Washington D.C. was going to withdraw any money towards the homeless because they were going to pass that Gay Marriage law. Something along the lines of that.

Let me ask you something...are any of those points polled something that is NEVER advocated by right wing/Republican pundits? Opinions like that don't come out of thin air.

I wouldn't have included the 'Not sure' as part of your overall numbers (which you said was "don't know") since there can be a number of reasons to choose that answer. Stick with the 'Yes' answers for a better idea of the poll results:

Should Barack Obama be impeached? 39
Do you believe Barack Obama was born in the United States? 42
Do you think Barack Obama is a socialist? 63
Do you believe Barack Obama wants the terrorists to win? 24
Do you believe ACORN stole the 2008 election? 21
Do you believe Sarah Palin is more qualified to be president than Barack Obama? 53
Do you believe Barack Obama is a racist who hates white people? 31
Do you believe your state should secede from the United States? 23
Should openly gay men and women be allowed to teach in public schools? 8
Should contraceptive use be outlawed? 31
Do you believe the birth control pill is abortion? 34

That's a good point, but his post did clearly state:

Of the responses, the following percentages either agreed or didn't know.

For most if not all of those questions, saying "don't know" is just another answer for yes.
