2,000 Dead People Got Food Stamps

This shouldn't surprise anyone. We had dead people getting the stimulus package that was given out by former PM Rudd. The government was rather embarrassed when notified of this.

New York and Massachusetts are administering food stamps to 2,000 dead people, according to Sen. Tom Coburn’s (R-Okla.) catalog of government waste.

The 2012 Waste Book, released earlier this week, documents $4.5 billion in waste in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), commonly known as food stamps.

Among his findings, Coburn said that, “The USDA Inspector General found roughly 2,000 dead people are still receiving food stamps in New York and Massachusetts combined.”

“Additionally, its investigation revealed 7,236 people in these states are receiving duplicate benefits, while 286 are on state lists that should exclude them from receiving food stamps,” the report said, amounting to $1.4 million in unnecessary payments each month, or $147.03 for each recipient, dead or alive.

Since food stamp benefits are paid to FAMILIES, and not individuals, your argument, as usual, is shallow.

The more frightening statistic. 40% of families receiving food stamps have at least one person in the family with a job.

in short, the Plutocrats have done such a good job stomping on the middle class that Food Stamps just aren't for poor people anymore.

Many SNAP participants had jobs. Nearly 30
percent of SNAP households had earnings in 2010,
and 41 percent of all SNAP participants lived in a
household with earnings. For most of these
households, earnings were the primary source of
income.

Thats 2000 people in those two states..Imagine the 100s of billions of dollars that is wasted by the federal government, but of course they need more:eusa_eh:

The technology exists to properly police the govt assistance programs.
When a death certificate is issued it should go into a national database that govt assistance programs and voter registration programs scan once monthy. If a person is found to have died they are automatically removed from the voter rolls or govt assistance programs and a letter is issued to the address of the dead person informing the survivors/estate of such.

If the only money earner in the family died it may well be that the surviving family will be entitled to more "food stamp" benefits. Ot it could be less depends on the family situation.

this could be used for SS benefits, Cancelling of drivers liscence, Welfare, etc as well.

That is bullshit.

So 2,000 dead people allegedly got food stamps. Guess we have to scrap the whole program, right?

I don't know anyone who isn't for stopping waste, fraud and abuse in our programs. Some do, however, think we should throw the baby out with the bath water. Fix it, don't destroy it.

Hey pinhead, the 4.5 billion is national, only the 2,000 is the two states. Your own link says it is an average of $147.03 for each recipient per month, do the math. So your 100s of billions is truly imaginary.
