never take it off in flight unless you absolutely have to.
loosen it, but leave it fastened

It was really an Islamic terrorist plot. There was an undercover radical islamic hypnotist who was using his skills to hypnotize people to pray to Allah, thus they had to loosen their seat belts. Since not all people are susceptible to hypnotism he had a back up plan of serving poisoned food he got from Ft. Jackson. Just wait, there is more to this and rest assured, since it happened on an airplane we will be able to find a way to blame Islam.

I kind of figured. When they pilot announced that turbulence is coming I don't understand why they didn't wear them.

Most probably didn't believe turbulence could be so....turbulent until after it happened.
