I didn't get to go, after planning it for over 2 months. :(

Only 8 hunters, which was about 12 fewer than needed to cover all the property adequately. They got 13, which was pretty good for the weather we had, but not as many as we needed to take out, or I had hoped to get. 8 males, 5 females, most of them young pups but enough adults to impact the population. They took a couple of hides, then placed the carcasses for bait (a handful of them are still out there this morning, and I may go later today).

Overall, a good night, but we can do better. Shit....we HAVE to do better :(

I'll post pics as soon as they send them to me.

So we've taken out 21 this month, 31 since Christmas, and 39 since the start of deer season. And we've only been working 640 acres so far.

We'll be going every full moon for the next several months, and we'll be out in smaller groups intermittently between the moons.

Shooting animals is not 'sport'.... unless, of course, they can shoot back?

I never said it was "sport."

It was management, not a hunt.

They weren't after trophies, just kills.

They did well, and I appreciate the help.

We've got to kill more though, or we may have to go to poison, which I really do not want to do.

You put it in the 'sports' forum, did you not? Well, it ain't sport. It's killing a defenseless creature who has 'owned' that land longer than you have.

Would you feel better if I get a mod to move it to the Immigration forum?

No.....these animals were all less than 48 years old, so I've owned it longer than them. And if you want to play "their ancestors" card, I've got them beat there too. We were on that land for almost 100 years before the first coyote ever set foot there. They aren't native, but they are beneficial to the soil....after they rot.

Err......

Raise the number to 14.

They shot 2 more this morning, but apparently one from last night was a dog. I've seen the coyote accept a dog once or twice before, but it is always a really bad-ass dog. I'm pretty sure I've seen the one they shot before. I've let him walk because he was always a loner, and I figured he could hold his own and maybe take one or two coyote before he goes.

Seeing that he was a male, probably good that they took him out if the pack had accepted him.

And yeah Cali, the dogs ARE native, but they are a nuisance also, though they're nowhere near as big a problem as the coyote. I typically let the healthy looking ones walk, and only shoot one or two a year. We shot 6 about 5 years ago, and they've been in check since then.

So mini gun has been shooting hookers and such?

coyotes aren't native the America? But dogs are?

That aside, why are you shooting them for? How many are there in the wild?

They aren't native to Alabama, and yes, the feral dogs are.

We're shooting them for management, to protect the native species.

No clue how many there are....too many.

1 is too many here.

Just the ones with STDs.

Just got off the phone.

Add one more :)

So the updated count for this week is 17 coyotes, 1 feral.

And still 4 days to go.

Looking better!
