And there are going to be more than that. A very competative field, with the promise of really big bucks for the people that solve some major problems. But as one company solves a problem, and gets patents, many more companies go out of business because they are no longer competative.

Now, we can just say, do it on your own. But in the meantime, China and Europe have already made up there mind to be number one in the alternative energy field. Which means that if we lag, then they will be selling us technology, rather than the other way around.

But, if you want to be a third world country, just continue to insist that we do not support any basic research or manufacturing research in these fields.

So oldrockhead supports what is basically the government version of Bain, except with taxpayer money instead of private funds of course......

The rating company's rated half of these companies as junk bonds. This is not research and development, this is legal plunder. Its rent seeking lobbyists embedded in corruption. If government wants to boost research and development then they need to find a way to do without handing money to corrupt private enterprise.

Can't you say anything without a lot of emotion and fear-mongering?

China and India (Europe is a failed socialist policy) obviously will surpass us, The basis of supporting research and development in these countries is - research and development, In this country it's kickbacks to the democrats and unions. Government support of energy development is a gigantic money laundering scheme. Millions of taxpayer funds are given to thise companies which are then cleaned and pressed, given to the DNC as donations.

If it's so "competitive," then why do they need taxpayer money to stay afloat? Check that. Even with taxpayer money they can't stay afloat.

If "green energy" is so promising, let private investors provide the financing. I don't care how many of these boodoggles go under so long as I'm not on the hook for it. But we all know private money won't tough it with a ten foot pole.

It's all a giant con.

Spain has been investing billions into solar power, and look at the wonders that has done for its economy. It just got downgraded two notches.

Amazingly you hold zero responsibility to the military industrial complex and our 'blessed by god' thirst for war.
