10 Top Albums of the '60s and '70s

Live Dead is another gem-The Eleven is perhaps the greatest high energy psychedelic jam ever recorded. so much going on

that Huff list was bogus, I was laughing at some of the stuff there while Seminal works like Aqualung of LZ I or TOMMY were not included.

LZ I is top ten
Derek and the Dominoes-Layla and other Love Songs
Eat a Peach-the best record from the best US Band
Surrealistic Pillow-Jeferson Airplane
Are you experienced-Hendrix, Redding and Mitchell
Aqualung or Thick as a Brick-pick one
Seventh Sojourn-Moody Blues
Sgt Pepper
Liege and Lief-Fairport Convention-the seminal electric Folk record
Blood on the Tracks-Bob Dylan
Eat a Peach, Hell Yes, and the one before that, was it Live At Filmore East, with Elizabeth Reed?

But Carole King???

Gag me with a fuckin' grapefruit spoon.

Tapestry sold tons of copies. I agree, its not one I'd even consider. every record LZ did was better than that record
Hell, I'd put some of the MC-5's stuff ahead of Tapestry and ahead of Bruce OverratedSteen

A guy gave me the first Bruce cassette.

I threw it out the window before I drove five miles.

What sold and what was good were two different things.

I like some Lynrd Skynrd too.

I grew up 4 miles from the Ludlow Garage-my mom's best friend wanted to take us to see Duane and the boys there but my mother didn't think a 10 year old kid ought to be in such an environment. Damn. one of the greatest live efforts ever-ABB at the Ludlow Garage

461 Ocean Blvd
JESUS CHRIST Superstar (Ian Gillan on lead vocals-damn great choice there Andrew)
Made in Japan-Deep Purple
"THE CLASH"
Astral Weeks-Van Morrison

Blood on the Tracks doesn't even come close to any one of Dylan's albums # 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.

I'd rate Hard Days Night, Rubber Soul, and Help over Sgt Pepper, easily. And I PLAY the songs as well as listen.

How could I have forgotten Highway 61 and Blonde on Blonde????
Those were great but I'd still rate Bringin It All Back Home above both of those. I first heard it in a department store, playing on the ceiling speakers in the record department. I stayed there for 3 hours listening to it over and over, spellbound.
Although I don't really like songs about recreational drugs, I was captivated by the melody of Mr. Tambourine Man, and the 4 verses were some of the best poetry I've ever heard. Even that was outdone by the next 2 songs > Gates of Eden and It's All Right Ma (I'm Only Bleedin), which only started a whole new genre of popular music (Rap)

Goodbye Yellow Brink Road should be on the list. And any of Zeppelin's first 6 albums. Who's Next. Exile on Mainstreet. The list is endless.
