Libyan security guards were killed and wounded trying to defend US Ambassador Chris Stevens during the attack in Benghazi in which the US diplomat died, a Libyan UN envoy said Wednesday.

Ibrahim Dabbashi, Libya's deputy UN ambassador, told reporters that up to 10 Libyan security personnel were casualties of the attack on Tuesday. "Some of them have been killed at the start of the attack," he said.

UN Assistant Secretary General Jeffrey Feltman told the UN Security Council he had "seen reports that Libyan security personnel were also killed" in the attack.

Stevens was among four US diplomats killed in Benghazi by a mob who stormed the US consulate after allegedly being angered by a movie mocking Islam.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also hinted at the role played by Libyan guards.

"Heavily armed militants assaulted the compound and set fire to our buildings. American and Libyan security personnel battled the attackers together," Clinton said in Washington.

Dabbashi said he did not have an exact number for the Libyan guards who were hit. He paid an emotional tribute to Stevens, who was sent to Libya as opposition forces battled former dictator Moammar Qaddafi.

"The ambassador was a friend of Libya. He was always shoulder-to-shoulder with us when we had to face murder and destruction during the reign of the despot," the Libyan envoy said

All honor to the host members who died and were injured in defense of our embassy personnel.

Who were these "American security personnel"? I thought the USMC guarded the Embassies?

Leaving our security up to somebody else is a recipe for disaster.

Can't secure the whole world for Americans.

Also, some of these Libyan security guards were busy helping the attackers locate the Ambassador

Who were these "American security personnel"? I thought the USMC guarded the Embassies?

They do guard the "Embassies". The attack was on a remote "Consolate" Do try to keep up Frankie.

Yeah, good idea. Why don't we set up in a war-zone and paint a bullseye on them too.

Fucken dumb-asses.

How do you assess that area as a war zone? Their revolution has been over for some time. Do you think not establishing good relaltions with Lybia early on in its reconstruction and emerging democracy is wise?

OP - Do you have a real source? Or do we have to rely upon made up monkey shit dot com?

Below is a statement released by the State Department from Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on the killing of U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans in Benghazi, Libya.

Yesterday, our U.S. diplomatic post in Benghazi, Libya was attacked. Heavily armed militants assaulted the compound and set fire to our buildings. American and Libyan security personnel battled the attackers together. Four Americans were killed. They included Sean Smith, a Foreign Service information management officer, and our Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens. We are still making next of kin notifications for the other two individuals.

This is an attack that should shock the conscience of people of all faiths around the world. We condemn in the strongest terms this senseless act of violence, and we send our prayers to the families, friends, and colleagues of those we’ve lost.

No, no, no...

It's your MEDIA stopped reporting from Libya some time ago (as soon as "civilised" murdered Gaddafi).

But Libya no longer exists. It is a mess of warring tribes and political factions where the so called "central government" does not control even its "revolutionary forces", yet along any meaningful territory.

And what did you expect US State Department to say?

"We were telling our propaganda consumers that we helped to make Libya a democratic/civilised/peaceful nation and stop the violence, and now everyone can see how "democratic, civilised, peaceful" trained by us "Libyan security personnel" entertains itself by dragging our ambassador around the streets for hours"?!

Earlier today "Libyan central government" US puppets issued an apology, stating that it were "Gaddafi gangs" who did it.

But clearly, US could not allow that statement to become too public either, because, however you look at it, its either US has to admit they installed plain criminals in power in Libya; or that their puppets from "Libyan central government" are powerless before Gaddafi-associated resistance.

As it stand now, Gaddafi was not mentioned; current rubble in charge of Libya was made to look heroic, and villains were some abstract "evil forces" -- some "armed militia".

PS
What happened to the bastard is nothing but poetic justice.
