One in five U.S. high school students say they have ever taken a prescription drug such as OxyContin, Percocet, Vicodin, Adderall, Ritalin, or Xanax, without a physician's prescription, a new survey from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has found.

Twelfth-graders had the highest likelihood of prescription drug abuse, at 26 percent, and ninth-graders had the lowest, at 15 percent. There was also variation by race; white students most commonly reported abusing prescription drugs, at 23 percent, followed by Hispanic students at 17 percent and black students at 12 percent.

That's why I am uncomfortable with NJ passing medical marijuana. Kids will think its ok because its prescribed by a doctor. It wouldn't surprise me if pot becomes the new Ritalin in a few years from now. Imagine those test scores then.

BTW - those stats are probably low. Kids aren't always honest when surveyed.

What is an intoxicant?

It is anything that can be toxic when taken in large enough amounts.

Most perscription drugs are intoxicants.

Pot is not.

Why not?

Because there is no toxic level known.

So while one can get high with pot, one cannot become inTOXICated by it.

Interesting, no?

Aspirin is more dangerous than pot, folks.

Drugs kill people.

Just say no to drugs.

Drink, it is legal and OHHHHHHHHHHHHH boooooooooooooooooooooy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Flava Flav!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Still, I would smoke pot or certainly do magic mushrooms if I could find out how to get them, but I am always too drunk.

Everyone thinks I work for the government.

Kids were getting high on legal and illegal drugs when I was in high school in the 80s so this is no shocker.

In fact things haven't changed all that much. We're just treating everything as some sort of crisis today.

Intoxication is dealing with inebriation or change in stupefaction or excitement because of a chemical reaction from a substance... not in terms of toxicity

And thinking pot is no more dangerous than pot?? That may be a candidate for dumb quote of the month
