$1.15 Billion Cracker Lawsuit favors black farmers

The 18,000 number is the number of current black farmers. Right now, today. The 90,000 number is the total number that were affected during the entire period of time that the discrimination was occurring. Example: If a black farmer went bankrupt, or was denied loans that were given to non-minorities simply on the basis of the farmers minority status...and that same minority is no longer a farmer...then they are not part of the 18,000 number, but are part of the 90,000 number. They should still be eligible for any compensation given from the lawsuit though.

The Sherrod angle though....THATS going to be the dark horse that may actually be a scandal. I'm going to take a nap. I don't know if you feel like looking further into Sherrod's company getting compensated millions, and her personally getting compensated hundreds of thousands, but that may be where the scandal actually lies IMO.

Bachmann is totally right. If the numbers don't add up and fraud may be a factor then all claims must be investigated before another dime is paid out. We;ve already paid a Billion. We don't need to be shook down for another billion unles we verify each and every so called farmer claim.

How come no one is bitching about the 3.5 billion settlement the Indians were given and only complaining about the 1.15 billion the Pigford claimants will get?

the immediate reaction is indian tribes make bazillions off casino gambling and tax free tobacco products. however there are tons of indians that live in abject poverty on indian reserves. that culture is all they know.
Now, what those indians will do with an extra few thousand is a mystery.
Perosonally, I don;t think any of the farmers or indians should get paid off.
let's see, 18,000 black farmers divided by 1.5 billion equals $833,333 per farmer.. now to me that just seems patently unfair. Every one of these people will become rich. And there is no way in hell any of those farmers would have accumulated $800k in cash wealth in their lifetimes. No way.
Like I said to another poster, I thijk the funniest part of this is there are black people in this country that are cheering this decision. They forget that the money is coming from THEIR pockets just like any other taxpayer.
