Johnney get your bow

Polk deer herd breaks records

Special bow-hunting seasons have helped, but the hungry animals take a large toll on local plants.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Des Moines area's deer population is at record levels, the latest count shows, devastating both decorative and woodland plants.

The boom came despite a series of special bow-hunting seasons designed to rein in the deer numbers.

Scientists flying in a helicopter in January found higher deer numbers in all but one of 13 Polk County zones where deer are counted each year.

Little stands in the way of the animals' proliferation. Iowa has few large predators - such as mountain lions - that eat deer.

"The only predators left are Fords, Buicks and Chevys," said Loren Lown, Polk County natural resources specialist.

may want to come and visit Tenn for deer season....They are RAISING the limit on deer to 138!!!!! seems they think they have way too many and want to thin em out some. the daily bag limit is going up in certain areas{mine} to 3 PER DAY! 138 will be the possesion limit per HUNTER! I may want to get in the deep freezer selling business. thats a heap of deer. also just yesterday I picked up a Hoyt compound-bow with 6 alum shaft arrows for 8 BUCKS!!! was offered a C note this morning and turned it down. Damn I love yard sales ran by dumb folks. There seems to be alot of that type here in Tenn/ Kentucky. didnt even jew em any. I didnt have the heart to

Eight bucks, hell just the arrows are worth 3 or 4 bucks each. Nice buy!

138 deer, holy doodle I'm telling my buddy he is always taking hunting trips around the country. Just out of curiousity how big do those deer grow, I'm assuming they are white tail deer.

Biker the Whitetail around MD, VA, TN, NC, WV are as big as greyhound dogs and weigh as much. They are friggin pests too, eat up a garden in no time there are so many.
