Biofuels: What do the experts think?

Quote:
By Matthew Knight

LONDON, England (CNN) -- It wasn't so long ago that biofuels were being heralded as the savior of the planet and a thoroughly green solution to our climate woes. But fair winds have been replaced by persistent storms of criticism. But is it justified? Principal Voices has spoken to three people -- an economist, a scientist and an environmental campaigner -- at the heart of the biofuels debate. Here, they have their say on biofuels. Have yours at bottom of the page.

All these things will happen very quickly because the demand for oil is growing.

For $10,000 you can buy a machine that will produce enthanol in your own backyard for $1 a gallon. It can produce 35 gallons a week by combining sugar, yeast, and water.

GM is building a $300 million dollar plant to produce oil from garbage.

The human race has infinite ingenuity, and we will solve this problem.

Ethanol is a wash. It creates too much pollution.

If the human race has infinite ingenuity, how come it can't do something simple like find someone with a brain to run for President of the US?

I have a friend who runs on biodiesel. He collects the oil from restaurants, and refined it with a really simply process. It costs him 50 cents a gallon, so he's saving about 90% on fuel.

Imagine how embarrassing it would be to have to take your car into the shop because the injectors got clogged with little bits of fried chicken.
