I've read about the theory in bits and pieces, and I know it is taught in Russia, though not so much in the west, but I didn't give too much thought to it. Then I ran across this article in PNAS:

It's interesting to note that Russia has been able to take oil fields previously thought to be dead, and bring them back to life. Their oil output is increasing, and ours is in steady decline. Also keep in mind that the conventional western peer-reviewed consensus amongst geologists was to doubt the reality of plate tectonics, as late as the mid 1960's.
