Taxation: The high bench has confirmed that ObamaCare's individual mandate is a massive tax on the American middle class. But let's not forget the 20 other new taxes that are embedded in the law.

Though President Obama never sold it as a tax hike, the Supreme Court ruled the mandate is exactly that. Unfortunately, the majority argued it's legal under Congress' taxing authority.

Forcing citizens to buy health insurance "is absolutely not a tax increase," Obama insisted in 2009. Earlier, he assured the public that raising taxes on the middle class to support his health care plan was "the last thing we need in an economy like this." "Folks are already having a tough enough time," Obama added.

Indeed they are. But his plan, which subsidizes some 30 million uninsured, amounts to a $1.8 trillion whammy on working families. And that's just for starters.

The court was silent about the 20 other different taxes hidden in ObamaCare, more than half of which affect families earning less than $250,000 a year.

The new taxes, which cost some $675 billion over the next decade, include:

• A 2.3% excise tax on U.S. sales of medical devices that's already devastating the medical supply industry and its workforce. The levy is a $20 billion blow to an industry that employs roughly 400,000.

The Middle Class just got screwed again. They'll pay for this debacle, in more ways than one.

This November's election just became all about Obamacare. Tell me something. If the government can't force me to eat broccolli, but can tax me if I don't, how is this any different?
It's not.

How did you miss Obama's largest tax hike on working families in our nations history?

But his plan, which subsidizes some 30 million uninsured, amounts to a $1.8 trillion whammy on working families.

As to the other taxes in the list? Liberals (voting class not the political class) are always so stiff necked stupid when it comes to how other taxation happens by way of cost increases... seriously wake the hell up.

Both the very poor and very rich had nothing to lose. They will both celebrate this ruling. It's the Middle Class who will suffer and pay for this. But in reality, all Americans will suffer. Big Brother now owns your body. American Citizens have become his slaves with this ruling.

A Kaiser Family Foundation survey of employers last year found that average premiums for an employer-provided family policy, which is more likely to be the type of comprehensive coverage required by ObamaCare, was $13,375, about 25% of the median household income of $52,000.

That $13,375 family policy costs the same for both lower- and higher-income workers. So if the mandate is a tax, it's equivalent to a 50% income tax on a family making $25,000 a year but a 10% income tax on a family making $130,000 a year. Talk about regressive taxes!...

Of course, the Obama administration will argue that it is addressing the regressivity problem by providing a sliding-scale subsidy, up to 400% of the federal poverty level (about $88,000 for a family of four in 2010), to insulate lower- and middle-income families. And the administration might argue that its efforts to encourage employers to provide coverage, by imposing a fine on them if they don't, also reduces the cost to most families.

But subsidies don't negate the fact that ObamaCare imposes the tax on every individual in the country. It simply means that someone else--i.e., either employers or other taxpayers--will be paying the tax for millions of Americans.

Obamacare Ruling May Be Bad News For Stressed Tax Code

Because the High Court found that the penalty for not having coverage is a tax and not a fee or a banana, it ruled Congress has the constitutional authority to impose such a levy. In effect, the 5-4 decision written by Chief Justice Roberts concluded that Congress can tax you for failing to acquire insurance. Thus, the mandate as created by the ACA is constitutional.

And that's if the mandate were going into effect this year--it doesn't start until 2014. Yet premiums have already started rising rapidly to cover the additional medical care and insurance regulations imposed by ObamaCare.

The Arizona Republic reported in July, "State and university employees with families can expect to see their monthly health-insurance costs rise as much as 37% next year, depending on the type of plan they choose." The article goes on to say, "Alan Ecker, Department of Administration spokesman, said health reform is ‘responsible for all increases for employee premiums' next year." While it's too early to know if such a premium-increase trend will continue until 2014, it's clear the ObamaCare "health insurance tax" will be even higher in the future...

how come they are not including the fact that the majority of Americans get a good deal of their health care costs paid by their employer in those figures? most Americans are NOT paying the 13k on a 52k family salary....

How Much Is the Obamacare ‘Tax’?

Posted on June 28, 2012

Q: How much will the “tax” penalty be for going without health insurance?

A: The minimum assessment will be $695 per person (but no more than $2,085 per family) in 2016, when fully phased in. The amount can be higher depending on income. But there are exemptions for low-income persons and others.

Just what I posted.
Most Americans have insurance; hence no tax. Epic fail.

For most Americans, it means nothing; your "tax" is paid by your employer just as it is now.
