But it looks to me like the states which are most deeply in trouble are faily well mixed between RED, BLUE and black (which I interpret as being neither R or D)

Per usual, this partisan regionalism is nothing more than ignorant blather spewed by people who are either very ignorant or simply malicious tools.

I think I'm right in saying that California was a serious welfare state long before Arnold Schwarzeneggar was governor (whatever the hell - I'm not going to try to figure the correct spelling of that name). I've very much gotten the impression over the last decades that Californians are devout believers in welfare for all.
