At lunch I went shopping for a cage for a bird.
resigned to keep you since I had heard no word.
I'd name you McNugget and invite you into
The Shogun's little ark; my condo sized zoo.
But two hours later as you shook and writhed
I watched, in futility, as you shuddered and died.
I know my answer if your real owner cares
What happened to Nuggy and how did he fare
Outside, this evening, i'll bury your body
and dub thee a saint of pet owners' folly.
