Giant highway to boost regional economies - Hurriyet Daily News and Economic Review

It will connect Izmir to Istanbul. In-between, important industrial cities will be connected to the route. The project will effect 18 provinces, ensure 10.000 direct jobs and 50.000 indirect jobs. It's completion is set for 2017.
It includes:

- 30 viaducts
- 4 tunnels
- 209 bridges
- world's 2nd longest suspension bridge

Project cost is 11 Billion $.

Ground-laying ceremony was yesterday.

3 new city-centers will be constructed in Istanbul.
6 world-famous architects are competing for the project.

It will resemble Manhattan, with 85-100 km² it will be 3rd biggest island in whole Turkey.
Financial districts of Levent + Maslak will be on the island.

About the SAP (Southeast-Anatolia-Project) I will write later.
But the exports from SAP are processed through Mersin port.

Its capacity will be raised from
1.7 Million TEU to
12 Million TEU

CERN... In the Middle-East there will be a mini-CERN built in Jordan under the SESAME project.

SESAME is coordinated by UNESCO, and its components come from recycled components of USA, Germany, UK, Switzerland and France.
Under SESAME, scientists from Bahrain, Cyprus, Egypt, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Pakistan, Palestine Authority and Turkey come together.
It will be a mini-CERN of Middle-East.

In 2010, it supplied 22% of Turkey's energy.
But it is not yet finished.

Scope:
- 22 Dams
- 17 Hydro-Power
- 4.2 million acres new farmland

Once it is completed, 28.5% of Turkey's water potential will be put under control.
Also Euphrates and Tigris are under control.

Whole Project finished in 2013.
