I agree, although I think it's frequently used as birth control for lazy/irresponsible people.

If you watch the video in the link below, including the commentary afterwards, I think most of us (women) would agree how creepy it is even if you want abortion to remain legal.

well, let's leave it where we agree... which is the part bolded above. i think the concept of it being used by "lazy/irresponsible" people is actually an effort to inflame. i don't believe it has much validity, though it may be that the odd person abuses the privilege.

as for the video, if it's creepy, i'm pretty sure it's intended to be. i wouldn't rely much on it. i certainly have no desire to watch it because it won't change my mind about the need for government to stay out of our most private decisions. i thought roe was pretty fair in terms of where the line was.

finally i think we might be able to agree that being pro-choice is not the same as being pro-abortion. i think with education and availability of contraception, abortion should become rarer and rarer.

As a man, a potential father-to-be... a prospective pater familias... (think George Clooney)

I have stared in the face of abortion twice in my life.

a) Ex wife trying to overdose while fist-hammering her 6 month belly, cursing what's inside.

b) Doctor telling us we most likely will bear a Downe's retard. "Go talk about your options" he said.

RVW granted the irresponsible their irresponsibilities. It is now the law of the land.

I myself chose responsibility. Not once, but twice. And I have over the last 30 years paid a monumental price... in dollars.

But the rewards of living breathing children have been a priceless commodity to me.

I would trade nothing for them... but I would give my life for them.

here's the thing, h... i have a son. i chose to have him. in fact, i went through quite a number of medical procedures TO have him. i'm not a stranger to love for a child. (knock wood). so while i understand and appreciate your position, "irresponsibility" is not the only reason pregnancies occur. stuff happens. and, ultimately, it's the woman's body.

and the issue really isn't whether you agree with the decision to terminate a pregnancy or not. the issue is whether government has the right to intervene in a woman's control over her own body... and interfere in such a personal decision... and when.

ultimately, a balance was drawn and it was determined that the woman's interest in governing her own body outweighed the governmental interest for the first trimester.

it is what it is. someone's got to have final say over these things. and since it's our bodies, it's our final decision.

which doesn't mean i don't understand the decision you made. i do and you had every right to, jointly with your wife, make that choice. but it was a choice. and others have the option to make a different one.

as my grandfather used to say in a very heavy russian accent -- "great country, america".

p.s. i had genetic testing and did an amnio... that was my choice, too. does that make you a better person than i am? maybe. i don't know.
