In the hours since the two sides agreed through Egyptian mediators to de-escalate, a major Hamas militant was killed by Israeli forces. Certainly the opportunity to do him has existed in the past and would again in the future. Why he had to be killed at such a sensitive moment when Israel is ostensibly trying to end the rocket and mortar fire from Gaza is baffling. He will be replaced with the next terror-rat in line and the beat will go on.
Wouldn't a bit of restraint right now have better served Israel, Hamas and peace? It certainly would have served Ahmed al-Jabari.
