Actually, it's the Shias of Iran and Iraq united against the Sunni's, as it has always been. That's where the real issues are. We just walked into a huge domestic violence situation. Ask any cop what that's like!
We have to be careful to leave things balanced, something we didn't do after the Kuwait war, which is a big part of why the Shia's have not been so cooperative even after we got rid of Saddam. They continue to suspect we'll do a double take on them but, unfortunately, their own actions make just may make that prediction self-fullfilling. We're working with the Sunni's now and boosting the defense capabilities of the Saudi's, etc. in the region.
There are signs that Iran is starting to see the light and that it's President is beginning to lose favor among the real rulers of the country.

The battles among the different factions have decreased because we are Paying them not to fight each other. Our tax dollars are paying off the militants. Another one of bush's plans I assume.
