Yes, I was reading about this earlier. Certainly the US Military has wanted to take out al-Sadr for a long time. But I am surprised at the roll of the dice by Maliki. He has shown some nerve. He appears to believe that there can only be one Shiite leader left standing. And he is trying to make sure it is him. I think he will continue to press, unless al-Sadr's Mahdi Amry lays down it weapons, which has next to no chance of happening. Thus the fight has a strong chance of becomming very intense throughout the Summer with the US backing Maliki and Iran backing al-Sadr. I hope the US has combat aircraft flying up and down the Iraq-Iran border 24/7 to interdict supplies coming from Iran bound for al-Sadr.
