| A ban on mandatory health insurance coverage has to do with this massive health care nightmare that's being proposed by Obama and Congress. Something needs to be done about Social Security and Medicare, yes, but not the way it's being proposed. Killing Medicare and shifting everyone to Medicaid is like robbing Peter to pay Paul. People on Medicare pay for that coverage (about $96/month) - it comes right off the top of their Social Security payment before the balance is distributed. People on Social Security who have the so-called "gap insurance" also pay the premium for that coverage as well. Medicaid, on the other hand, is fully funded by taxpayers. |

| I've been following this in the Missouri state legislature. Quote: Missouri House seeks to block health insurance mandate By CHRIS BLANK, Associated Press Writer Published: Thursday, March 4, 2010 5:14 AM CST The Missouri House gave preliminary approval Wednesday to a constitutional amendment that seeks to block a government mandate to buy health insurance, taking aim at a key provision in federal legislation to overhaul health care. The proposed state constitutional amendment would ban penalties or fines from being levied against individuals and employers who opt out of insurance and pay directly for their own health care. Medical providers could not be penalized for accepting direct payments for health care. Missouri House seeks to block health insurance mandate News Tribune

| This healthcare bullshit is the political death of Barack Obama. Seriously, this president has so polarized this great country that he's toast come '12. And that is a very good thing my friends.

| Nice point Ms. Mondo. George Will made the very same point, the US government can tax to create services but it has never, ever, asserted the power that it can mandate a citizen must buy a product in what would still be a private market or go to prison. His argument is that part of the Congressional plan (Obama seems to have no plan) would be struck down by the Supreme Court.

| No matter how the current issue of health care is settled, I can see reasons that both these things could begin to take place.

| This is where the real power of the Constitution shines through. Of course, move like this will be denounced by every socialist and all those who are in favor of big centralized federal government to control everyone and everything. |
