America has disrespected the Black race with slavery. And still refuses to pay reparations to Black Americans. For this sin, God has placed a great curse on America, and the White slave master decendants.

World Power?

America is the most powerful nation in the world, when Rome finally collapsed it was the still the most powerful nation on earth. So what would cause America to cease to be a beacon for hope and promise. Two things contribute, the lost of respect, Iraq has damaged that badly, and the loss of economic status. Both issues the republicans have helped undermine through unilateralism and deficit spending.

A Global Power Shift in the Making by James F. Hoge, Jr.

"The transfer of power from West to East is gathering pace and soon will dramatically change the context for dealing with international challenges -- as well as the challenges themselves. Many in the West are already aware of Asia's growing strength. This awareness, however, has not yet been translated into preparedness. And therein lies a danger: that Western countries will repeat their past mistakes...."

"Today, China is the most obvious power on the rise. But it is not alone: India and other Asian states now boast growth rates that could outstrip those of major Western countries for decades to come. China's economy is growing at more than nine percent annually, India's at eight percent, and the Southeast Asian "tigers" have recovered from the 1997 financial crisis and resumed their march forward. China's economy is expected to be double the size of Germany's by 2010 and to overtake Japan's, currently the world's second largest, by 2020. If India sustains a six percent growth rate for 50 years, as some financial analysts think possible, it will equal or overtake China in that time."

This is all just so ...... tired.

America is the #1 world power. We have not attempted to take over the world, as Rome and Greece did.... But some people just can't stand that people want to come here, that we have the highest standard of living on the earth, our people are the safest and happiest on the earth, and anyone can rise to wealth and/or power here.

It chafes with those who want to see their fellow man ground into the dirt.

Please explain to me exactly how liberating Iraq from a ruthless dictator and giving it to the Iraqis to govern somehow stained America as a beacon of hope and freedom in the world.

I mean how dare we throw off the shackles of a tyrant. We no longer stand for freedom and hope for that one!

If America's elite continues to commit class war upon America's working class they will turn our nation into a second rate nation before some of you have shuffled off your mortal coils.

Given how consistently their policies end up costing America and Americans, I suspect that is their hidden agenda, anway.

I am still trying to ascertain their motive for this agenda, though.

On the face of it, it really makes no sense.

OTOH, if I am wrong about their agenda -- if they are in fact doing their best to keep America a powerful nation -- then the elite who are making these consistently dumb policies are impossibily stupid.

I have a lot more trouble believing that those in charge are so short sighted, than I do believing that their motives are beyond my ability to fathom.

Maybe if Americans didn't buy into the notion that maual labor is some kind of low class job, we wouldn't be having to turn our heads the other way while illegal labor pours over our borders.

Editec, good post.

Curious that wingnuts never get tired of criticizing others - I thought Clinton was responsible for the Great Flood - but when it is aimed at the enormous amount of failures their party and policies have caused since Reagan they get upset. Rather childish responses to bad choices and a horrible administration.

A vote for John McCain is a vote against the fundamental principle of America, the right of the individual to lead their life privately without the government interfering.

inferring only wingnuts constantly criticize is one of the silliest posts you have created yet. Do you ever actually READ what liberals post here ?

Spot on.

If that class conscious conceit hadn't been driven into our heads, the whole FREE TRADE mess wouldn't have happened either.

|Don't we all recall how many times some FREE TRADE apologist told us that it's okay that we caused the losses of millions of jobs because those workers were unskilled?

It wasn't until the more high skilldd jobs started getting outsourced (like radiologist, computer tech and so forth) that people started to wake up to the fact that FREE TRADE is really class war on the ENTIRE WORKING CLASS.

Concerning America not trying to conquer the world:

It (fairly aggressivly in some cases) tried and tries to spread its system of gouverment (which f.e. the Romans did too) but is content with (very) indirect control.
However, America is among the more benign hegemons.

@ The notion of evil Americans who will be killed/burned/maimed/forced-to-watch-teletubbies because of the "heinous crimes" of their past:

The amount of Skeletons in its closet is fairly proportional to the significance (both today and in history) of the nation in question. If you are looking for an innocent nations, try some really small pacific Islands.

The whole thing with Slavery was in context of that age, the age of Colonialism. In this Age, Spainiards took Slaves, Frenchmen took Slaves, British took Slaves, the Ottoman Empire took Slaves, Marocco took a lot of (gasp *white*) Slaves and Russia did not take Slaves because absofuckinglutly noone to be enslaved lived in Siberia, in addition they were happily "enslaving" their own serfs anyway. The Germans (at that time it was more like Austro-Habsburgians, Prussians, Bavarians etc.) did not take a lot of Slaves because of their relativly non existant colonies, and they did not have colonies because they werent united.
When a formerly "innocent" country like Belgium actually got a big Colony, it immidiatly implemented a policy of absolutly merciless Subjagation and Extortion, Just look up the things that happened in Belgish Kongo.

Bottom line: Everyone is evil, especially if beeing so is profitable.

Other bottom line:
It is very rare for a state to apologise for its past. Germany did so for WW2 (quite often and fairly serious) as well as for some Colonial crimes, Australia recently apologized for maltreatment of the Aboriginees, Japan stuttered some apologises for what it did in China (a fair bit less often and not that serious), while there may be official apologises of the US for slavery, I am not aware of them. I would not expect them to be there either.

Last bottom line:
If you are black, you may experience more violent racism in Russia than in the US or in Germany.

Slavery was SOP for pretty much every nation, enthic and people on earth for MOST of the time mankind has been around, I suspect.

Certainly history documents very few societies, cultures or ethnics which did not have some kind of slavery.

The (near) world wide rejection of slavery might be the single most important thing that mankind has managed to pull off in the last two hundred years.

Hmmm...where have I heard that before?

Oh yeah...here:
Class struggle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Main class struggle
Labour (the proletariat or workers) includes anyone who earns their livelihood by selling their labor power and being paid a wage or salary for their labor time. They have little choice but to work for capital, since they typically have no independent way to survive.
Capital (the bourgeoisie or capitalists) includes anyone who gets their income not from labor as much as from the surplus value they appropriate from the workers who create wealth. The income of the capitalists, therefore, is based on their exploitation of the workers (proletariat)."

Socialist garbage, in other words.
