How can we as individual think more critically in a society and culture that is designed to deceive?

You mean like almost every society and culture throughout the history of mankind has been?

The quality that makes the sentient beings on this planet capable of reaching for the stars is their ability to think creatively and critically no matter what political or sociological environment they find themselves in. Adding to the promise and hope is the fact of adverse environments being more productive in the positive shaping of critical thinking than times of plenty.
