The boy and former student Manuel Ortega, 19, and as many as five other people attacked the girl in a secluded part of campus on Saturday night, police said. The group had been drinking, and for more than two hours, no one tried to stop the assault or called police.
Police are trying to identify the other assailants. A second juvenile who was detained for questioning Monday was released.
The attack began Saturday about 9:30 p.m., shortly after the girl left the Richmond High gym where the homecoming dance was still going on.

On days that the temp is over 65 degrees, I like to go down to the park at the end of my block and sit and read under a tree. Been doing it for 6 months now, it's a good habit that I think I'm going to keep.
There are quite a few teenage kids that hang out there. Many are there when I'm there.
Now, (and it's just been lately, like over the past few months), that I've seen kids hanging out around the buildings and doing simple vandalism. Whenever I see something like that, I go over and tell them to quit. They generally listen.
Last month, I was sitting out under my tree, and I saw a big gathering of kids all circled around. There were 2 15-16 year olds beating the shit out of each other, with some of the kids throwing kicks in when they rolled past them. I sat and watched for a couple of minutes, but then decided to go over and stop it.
Scared the fuck out of 'em when I did. Apparently, they are so unused to adults stepping in and stopping them from doing stupid shit, that when someone like myself goes over and yells at 'em, they stop.
Now...........if it's a "liberal" problem like some of you are saying, and a lot of you call me a liberal, why is it that I'm the only one at the park stopping them? Shit......there were 4 adults only 20 yards away from them, sitting at a picnic table DRESSED LIKE CONSERVATIVES WITH A NICE SUV PARKED ON THE STREET!
They ignored the fight. I didn't.
It's not so much a liberal or conservative thing as it is apathy and not wanting to take responsibility for making sure your neighborhood stays nice.
