Government healthcare is a non-starter, we already can't afford Medicare and Medicaid, how in the HELL, do you morons think we're going to work out MORE OF THE SAME THING?

It's absurdity of the first order.
Yep, that's why 80% of the country wants reform. Maybe YOU can afford the basic coverage, but my son can't. And I can't keep paying for his constant ear infections all winter. Will you send me some money to help out? We'll keep it "private."
80%? did that figure come form the Huff post? Nothing is free no matter what they tell you. Wait till you have to wait 6 months to have a doctor see your son for the ear infections. Free won't look so good then.
Just check the polls (here's all of them):

Health Policy

The irony is that in some polls, people seem to favor some sort of public policy, but at the same time don't want to pay for it.

Why would a HMO company want to insure someone with pre-existing cancer or any other expensive condition?

Would you buy a new car with a bad transmission?

Seriously. Talk about a stretch.

I was laughing out loud this morning as Eric Cantor made the morning talk show rounds, starting with C-Span's Washington Journal trying to promote the latest offering for health care by the Republicans. On C-Span he even made the ridiculous comparison of how expensive Ted Kennedy's treatment for brain cancer is and how under any of the Dem plans on the table, no one would be able to afford that kind of care. Well no shit, Eric. But YOU would because you're covered by the same insurance! (Talk about Dukakis moments!)

Seems the pubs continue to miss the point entirely. A public health insurance option isn't intended to include Cadillac coverage. Most folks who have no insurance whatsoever would be thrilled to just have basic coverage for preventive care and minor illnesses. Hey Eric, it's a no-brainer!!

Cantor's face was on C-Span, MSNBC twice, and NBC (probably others). Ironically, their latest proposal slated to cost $1.3 trillion still does not spell out where that money will come from. So tell us again why it's better?

And you wonder why all you Republicans are called racist, lets call the first black President by his Arab middle name cause I'm sure you called anything Bush did "w" and Clinton "Jefferson." Complete and utter jackass

Obviously they wouldn't issue a policy if a patient's prognosis already was going to cost far beyond what the premiums would be. But the problem has been when insurers will use the "pre-existing" clause to go way back to when someone first had a colonoscopy and polyps were removed (for example). They then claim THAT as "pre-existing" to deny a claim if the same person gets colon cancer 10 years hence.

Look, it isn't just health insurers who put broad definition to terms in insurance policies in order to give them wiggle room to at least postpone having to pay up. There are homeowners in the areas where Katrina hit the hardest who are still doing battle with their insurance companies.
