Can someone tell me what foxyproxy is for?

I was told it was something that should be added, but I don't know what proxies do.

All I do is browse, go here sometimes, and look at an occasional porn every now and then like once or twice an hour, MAX.

Do I need foxyproxy?

You need a proxy so that you can have several user names on USMB.

I use it for my Truthmatters and Teapartysamurai satirical accounts.

That's still only once an hour for 4 hours.

It's like me with USMB...I only log on once a day.

So I can say that I have only logged onto a porn site once?

Most of the questions in the FAQ assume I already know all the mumbo jumbo involved in proxies.

Give me some really good specific examples of what it would be used for.

Most people do not need it. It helps if you are trying to look at something that is blocked from being seen in one country because of copyright laws. An example is that I use proxies to watch some BBC content that cannot be viewed in the US because the particular episode I want to look at has not been released here. This keeps me about 3 weeks ahead in Dr Who vs what I can get on BBC America.

It can also be useful if you want to open multiple accounts somewhere that bans multiple accounts from the same IP.

If you want to know what it does, it routes everything you do through another server. Instead of going from your computer to the ISP server and then the internet it adds another step between you and what you are looking at. This will do two things, it makes it look like your computer is actually somewhere else, and it will slow down your browsing. Don't install it unless you want the extra privacy for some reason. If you do want the privacy on a regular basis, you might want to consider paying for a proxy service because they tend to be faster.
