This is a bad ruling.

You do understand now that you haven't saved any money, right? The most basic cell phone costs over $150 to manufacture. The contract is what gives you a discounted price on the phone. If you want to get rid of contracts, you also get rid of the subsidies that the companies put on the phones. Therefore, the most basic phone is going to cost you around the same price as the average early termination fee. $150 for the most basic basic of phones and over $400 for a BlackBerry.

Terribly unintelligent ruling.
