The politicians will not be allowed to reward their friends through the tax code and people will feel "somewhat better" about paying their taxes because there is always that nagging feeling that the regular person is getting the shaft while the rich use tax dodges and offshore accounts to pay less than their fair share.
Our current tax system is a mess and it needs to be fixed in a way that takes all the special interests and special treatments out of the equation.
We collect more than enough taxes in this country, we just do it in a very poor way and we have a severe spending problem.

And it's only partially a spending problem... the "I hate government" types don't get that.
And no one who hates government should be running government.
