If I'm correct, Richard Nixon started the war on drugs. A true conservative, Nixon was driven by fear and paranoia of the drug culture, and was quoted as saying, "I'm going to make those hippies take a bath!" Grace Slick of the Jefferson Airplane was rumored to have attempted to lace one of Nixon's drinks with LSD. Drugs are pushed on American society all the time. Look at the drug advertisements on television. Nixon was free enterprise and was against regulation, now we have drug companies that are out of control and pushing dangerous drugs on to the market, whistle blowers are silenced, VIOXX has caused numerous deaths, due to dangerous side effects. The FDA is a rubber stamp for the drug companies. Yet drug offenders are incarcerated with mandatory minimum sentences and railroaded into the prison system. Ronald Regan and Nancy Regan pushed "Just Say No". These same conservatives who you idolize are the ones that started the "War On Drugs".
